85' Coleman Chesapeake
« on: November 04, 2008, 10:00:35 AM »
Hey all,  I figured I would post my NTM Pop up here, as we are going to be doing some work to it,  And I didnt seen another Chesapeake,  I have been looking and havent found much on it, Right now I only have the pics from the guy we bought it from.

We tryed popping it up and it makes a pop sound, so want to get that fixed before we force her up. Its been raining here in Florida, so I we got out yesterday and started drilling out the rivets on the front panel, but its raining again today, so have her coverd and have to wait some more.

I printed off all the manuals and have been reading a lot.  Would love to see some pics of other 85 Chesapeakes,   Any rehab secrects would be great,  We need to replace or repair the canvas, that dont look like canvas.  I got a quote from Bear Creek Canvas, they are the cheapest at $770,  Need to replace the counter in the kitchen as it dont have one at all,  I think the stove had missing parts, havent been in side since we looked at it, but other then that , its usable, but we want to redo all the wiring, inside and out, Tires and Rims, Bearings.  Lights inside and out,  and have it repainted.

You can see my pic by clicking on the purple camera under my ID.

Im really loving this forum, so helpful and every one is so nice, Im sure you have seen my name around here a bunch. LOL

Welcome Sharon, I have an '88 Chesapeake. We've had it about 4 yrs and like it. It looks a lot like yours. Good luck with it.

Hello,

Thanks for replying, I check out your pics and yours does look a lot like mine, I need to replace my canvas as the major thing. I like your mod with the roof vent instead of the AC,  I bet the removed a lot of the weight.

I have a question for you on your Roof Lock,  that is the posi-action latch and I was out today trying to find one, as mine is missing both pins, the latch and the stud needs to be replaced,  I see you have a hex bolt on there, thats good to know, what did you use for the latch.  I also need to find those pins, Do you know what size it is, and where to find those.

And what is that latch you say is convenient, whats it for?

Your Camper looks good, nice mods

My first pup was an 83 or 85 Chesapeake I can't remember for sure what year it was. If you look in my album under old camper there are pictures of it. When I got it it had a broken lift cable that I replaced myself, I also reupholstered the seats, repaired the canvas, painted the roof, replaced the ceiling, and put a new floor in.

Looked good,  and just like mine, I don't see to many of these talked about, so its nice to see others have or had them.

Love the mods and that bike rack is super cool, great job.

Sharon, taking the a/c off the roof was definate stress relief for the roof. It weighs 90 lbs. The roof lock is the way it was when I got it. I'm the 3rd owner and I don't know who put that hex bolt and wire on it. The latch that I think you asked about is a door holder for when we're loading and unloading the pup.

When I need to find a part I usually have good luck with a local Coleman dealer here named Ozzies. Here is there website if you want to give them a try http://www.ozziescamping.com/

Good luck, Alan

thanks for the link,  I was able to find that latch, all the pins, the 4 end caps for the roof, the trim molding for the center of the track on the roof, the inside lights, cable inlet and water inlet, tires, and every thing else I was looking for at Conibear RV here in lakeland florida.  So im kind of a happy camper, lol,  Will be a total happy camper when its all fixed and im camping in it. lol

Check my pics to see the roof demo, will start repair after the rain this weekend.

I have to tighten the upper crank on my lift chain system. Your pictures are great cuase now I know what it looks like behind the front panel. It was hard to tell by looking through the little hole with a flashlight Wink. Thanks! Alan

Glad the pics were of help, I was afraid of what might be behind there, but had to go in to fix things.  If you turn your crank and the chain lays on top of the bottom, you do need to tighten it,  the manual says you can add up to 3 washers to the bottom bolts. but our chain was so loose, we had to remove a link and half to tighten it up.  Its really tight, but it don't pop any more, and the top stays up by itself now, so not so much strain on the pin and lock.

Good luck with your chain,
Sharon
