stored for winter
Well folks, we put the camper away until next year.  So, the plan is to save money this winter and come spring be able to finish it in one go.  We want to camp in it next summer.  I just recently found out that a friend of mine has an old Jayco pop-up that he wants to restore.  My wife chuckled that…

Coleman Cheyenne water pump location
« on: September 23, 2009, 10:45:09 AM »
My 2000 Cheyenne doesn't have an electric pump so before I put one in I was hoping someone with one could tell me where the factory istalled pump goes in this model.  I'm thinking in the cabinet between the fridge and the front bed looks best.

Thanks,

Ray

Not sure about the Cheyenne model, but my '01 Mesa has the pump underneath the sink, over next to the wheel well.  After looking at your floorplan, I think you're right about the cabinet. Here's a site with some tips to keep in mind to reduce pump noise.

The Cheyenne's pump is under the dinette seat closest to the sink.

Hmmm, not where I thought it would be.  Is it just in the middle of the floor cluttering up the bench storage or is there a box of some sort around it?  The water lines must run behind the refridgerator then or do they go under the floor?

The pump is mounted to the side of the bench with most of the lines running under the floor.  However, the outside shower is right there, so those lines are in the bench area with the pump.  I think thats why this location was chosen.

It does compromise storage a little, but we can still fit a plastic crate in that area if we need to.

As 14erfam mentioned the pump is mounted vertical with the connections and strainer facing down on the divider wall under the bench seat closest to the sink, the switch to turn on and off is located between the sink and the kingsize bed in that 4" area. But if I was to do it I would mount the switch some where you can get to easily when closed as I have forgot to turn the switch off before closing a couple times and when you go to empty the hot water tank before leaving the pump comes on because of the loss of pressure and reaching the switch in the closed position can be very difficult.

Agreed - our pump switch is mounted immediately to the left inside the entry door.  That location is easy to get to even when the camper is down.

Yes, the switch is definitely not in a good place.  In addition to being sort of hidden between the galley and the bed, the curtains can sometimes flop over it as well.  If you're putting in a pump, definitely put the switch in a place that is highly visible.

Other than that, we haven't had issues with the location of the pump itself. The bench location provides nice top/ down access if you need to work on it, clean the strainer, replace a gasket, etc.

Thanks for the advice.  I'll be sure to have the swing galley down when I choose a switch position.

I don't suppose someone could post a picture of their Cheyenne dinette storage area with the water pump and lines?  I'm trying to figure out the best way to run the lines.  I hate drilling holes in the floor, but with the pump in the dinette I'd need at least 2 holes(inlet and outlet flow) unless I sent them behind the fridge.  Eventually I may add HW which would mean a 3rd hole in the floor.

Keep in mind that the factory version with the pump has an outdoor shower and water heater.  If you intend to ad a water heater and shower, the factory configuration may be best.  We had the same Cheyenne and converted from a hand pump to a water pump, but we did not add hot water.  In our case, mounting it in the cabinet under the sink made sense since that cabinet was already housing the water lines to the sink.  We put the switch directly above the door to the cabinet.  We replaced the pump with a janitor faucet from Lowes - hooking the city water to one tap and pump to the other tap. Here are a couple of pictures:

Thanks for the pics, it looks like I should decide whether we want to add an external HW heater or a OEM type one that sits in the front compartment.

So I finally started installing the water pump last night in the factory location more or less so I can add an outside faucet and shower down the road.  There's an extra ground and power harness there, for the electric pump option I assume.  Problem is, using my fingers to hold them in place, I tried hooking up the wires from the pump to the 2 loose ones and got no signs of life.  Nothing's ever easy [:(O]. I can't tell where the black power wire ties in so maybe it's disconnected.
