Redecorate popup
« on: March 31, 2010, 10:40:21 PM »
Just got a new to me popup. I'd really like to redecorate and/or remodel it. Has anyone done this? If so, do you have any pictures you'd be willing to share? I'm not sure where to even start.

When I was a kid my parents replaced the curtains on their pickup camper; just bought fabric and used a sewing machine. Later they had an older motor home and hired an upholsterer to make new cushions and curtains, my dad and I replaced the carpet.
All of those things made a big difference.
My wife is thinking about replacing the curtains on our PUP.
A little bit goes a long way!
Good luck.

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to look around and see what I find. I do think I'll make new curtains, etc.  Going to take it out Friday, so we'll see how it goes. Wish me luck. LOL :)

Ours probably goes past the definition of redecoration - we've been renovating ours. We bought new foam cushions & I made canvas zip-on covers for them, and covers to go over those (easier to remove so they can be shook out or washed). The original covers were large brown & tan with orange accents plaid, with a brown vinyl back - dark looking.  Also made a comforter cover, & bought a rug runner. We have new canvas; if the new "curtains" are like the old, there won't be much of a way to change those, & I'm OK with that. We should install the new canvas this weekend, weather permitting, so I'm a bit impatient to see what it all looks like once things are reassembled.

Since the original paneling was dark, and we had to replace some of it, I've painted the whole inside off-white. It should be lighter at night, and just looks more cheerful.

The tabletop is dark wood design, but we're leaving that for now, it will actually be the only bit of dark finish left. The "galley" counter top & back splash were also dark wood-look. Since we removed the sink, the counter is being replaced with a lighter laminate.

ETA: we're also going to put new vinyl tile down once temps are a little more level. If we stick with using the rugs, it won't make much difference. The original is brown & gold, dingy looking; the new is wood-look, so not a lot lighter, just fresher - and without the paint drips, etc. from the rest of the work.

Theres a few good examples of folk staming their own individuality here very impressive work.  Campers don't have to be boring.

kitphantom - Your renovation sounds wonderful! Do you have before and after pics? Or even just after pics? I've been thinking about painting the cabinets, wasn't sure how it would look.   Thanks for the ideas!!!
Xolthrax - Thanks for sharing! Looks awesome!!! I especially love the floor! Did you paint the outside yourself or have it professionally done? It is gorgeous!!! Thank you for your ideas!!
Thanks again everyone!!! Your help is greatly appreciated!!!!   :)

There are some pics of beginning the renovation, and in progress, as well as the cushions at:

I'll take more this weekend as we reinstall the cabinets and, weather and time permitting, the new canvas.

The paint job is not all wonderful. I prepped the old paneling as best as I could, but there are still some strange areas, including patches from repairs. On top of that, it was 6% humidity with a slight breeze (spring in NM, at least it wasn't windy & grit) when I put the 2 color coats on it, so things dried fast, but I found some runs later. My goal was light, clean and protected, so we'll go with that for now.

I am going to be redecorating as well. The Pict's here are wonderful! I really love the new floor-Xolthrax - It is amazing!  [:D]. I am going for the Palm tree theme with a tiki kinda feel. Sounds goofy but it's what we like.  [A]. Good luck on your maiden voyage tomorrow!

Joe, what kind of paint did you use on the body of your popup? My PUP looks much like yours originally did so I'll probably be doing a lot of the same general things to it...

   [LOL] [:I]

C'mon, I grew up in the '70s, I was regressing to my childhood.  Briefly, very very briefly.

Thanks CHart6283.  I painted it myself.  I had paint leftover from when I painted the roof following its rebuild.

NH-popper: I used Valspar exterior premium harsh weather can't beat it with a stick brand paint.  (OK, it was some heavy duty Valspar stuff, I can't remember which)
