2006 Fleetwood Tao's
« on: February 18, 2011, 06:09:18 PM »
Any opinions out there?  In the market, need something very light (no more than 1500#'s), this seems perfect and there is one for sale at a local dealership for 3k.  Does come with stove, sink, air, heat... just no fridge.  But figure with the current weight we could get some sort of mini-fridge to put in if needed.  Any tips/advice, anything welcome!!!

Nobody out there has an opinion :(
By the way, it does need new curtains, but I was told I can order those very easily for about $20 (just needs 2 new panels) and also the molding around the sink needs to be attached better in a few areas.  But those are the only flaws I see.

I realize if nobody has a Taos it's hard to answer my question, but I'm having a hard time finding info on the Taos, as even when I go to Nada they don't list it as one of their models.  That concerns me that they only made limited ones due to them not being good or something.  Just don't know... maybe this is typical of Fleetwood, totally new to this.

Pink

Looks like just what you want. It is an 8' box yet has lots of great features. Here is an on line video of it:
2006 Fleetwood Taos 8' box camping pop up trailer

I have Sedona which is it's 10' version. I actually like the opposing seats in the Taos. I have the fridge in mine which I use for storage. Call me old fashioned but I prefer to use ice chests anyway. I would say go for it and join us in PUP Land.

what kind of vehicle are you using to tow? If your car has a GVWR of 1500 lbs then you need something super light. You might want to look into the LivinLite Quicksilver aluminum popups. They have a 6 footer that you can tow with a Mini Cooper or anything else small! BTW, how many sleeping in the pop up?

Well it's a done deal guys, thanks  [8D]

It is that exact same one in the video!  Interesting to hear your thoughts on the ice-box versus fridge, since this one doesn't come with one we were debating whether to get a super small one for little things (cold cuts and cheese) and having a cooler for the drink.  But the more we talk about it, feel like we'll need the storage room.

It's small, but with me, hubby, and a 6 year old I think it will fit us just fine.

I have a Ford Escape and this is just over 1000 lbs so we should be good to go.

Loving this website and all the forums, especially the mod ideas.  Can't wait to hit the trails!!!!

congrats and don't be stranger around here! BTW, pictures of the NTU (new to you) pup are required, along with a pic of it attached to the tow vehicle, if you want to be one of us!  [LOL]

Congrats pink-rheat ,  you will love it, as for as finding info on the fleetwoods it does seem hard to find as we just bought a 2004 fleetwood tucson  8' box  . and we love it.  Does  yours have a/c if not you can have it installed.

Thanks all, I can't wait for my Escape to get set-up and we'll be towing it away next Tuesday or Wednesday.

We actually do have AC and heat, which will be really nice.  No more days of packing it up in a tent and using a portable fan to blow around the hot air!

I will def be posting some pictures, we're busy now with our "to-do" list :)

As others here have suggested make your first "Trip" camp driveway or Camp backyard. Much easier and you will be much better prepared when you do the real thing!

I've seen people post about that... so you think it's totally worth it to do the drive-way camping first?  Good to know, we will definitely do that and thank you for the advice!

The camp driveway deal is so worth the time and effort. You will discover things you need and all you have to do is go in the house and get it. Make notes and packing lists. Do it as much lifelike as you can. OK to plug into the house power just like a campground.

Your six year old will be having a ball too.

Check out the "Lessons learned from camp driveway" thread on the general camping section. Worth the read.

The Taos is a new version of the Columbia (which I own) the only difference I can see is the storage box to the right of the door. When we go it is DW,DS2,DD2,the dog Captain Jack and myself and we have enough room. Learn to travel light (you'll be glad you did) We use 2 coolers for everything one has drinks and the other food. Some tips on storing the food...
1.If It can be frozen freeze it first (takes less ice that way)
2.Don't try to pack a weeks menu just get what you need for a day or two and buy "in town"
3.Get a cooler gizmo it is a "space blanket" for your cooler you will drastically reduce the amount of ice you use
4.keep the cooler in the shade (see number 3)
5.When the ice melts don't just dump it...cold is cold.(took me a long time to realize that for some reason)
6.When you need to empty it to add new ice drain the water into an empty jug you can use it to rinse the utensils before washing or a number of different things

Camp driveway is a great place.Enjoy
