Jayco with stuck lift arm!!
« on: May 22, 2011, 11:25:54 AM »
Went to crank down PUP this morning and one of the lift arms won't come down, came down a few inches then stopped! It actually feels almost loose and wiggly, but won't go up or down. Thankfully this happened in the driveway not a campground!
Since the canvas isn't pulled tight, we just tarped it really well for now. Any suggestions on how to get this down at least for now?
I'm afraid to go messing around inside right now. I want to get some 2x4 to support the roof before anyone goes poking around inside.  I don't want to take any chances of a total roof failure, that is one large PUP roof!

Thank for any help!!

OK, we did finally get it down. Actually by wiggling it, it collapsed down. DH caught it! [:D] So at least it is closed and dry. (I hope) But I still can't figure out how to get to the lift arm inside. We took away the panel in front of the stop and can see the cables, but there is a cabinet in the way, so we can't get to the corner where the lift is?

On L&w lift arms, They come out from the top.  You have to take the trim off and then the arm lifts out.  Do ONLY one arn at a time.  You Brace on the front or rear of the camper adjacent to the arm you removing.  Unbolt the are at the roof, remove the trim, and lift the arm out.  When L&W's stick, it's usually a bent lift arm.  While it's out, inspect the spring, and spring track, and derust, and lube.  Please note that the lift arm canvas covers must be in place, or water will run down the arm into the spring track, causing all kinds of havoc.  Popupparts usually  have these lift arms right in stock.  Also note that there rebuild kits available if the arm is not bent, but the guildes are worn out.  Good luck.  Ray
