Coleman Sink Hand Pump
« on: July 18, 2011, 05:22:42 AM »
Went dry camping over the weekend with DH and boys. We tried to use the hand pump on our sink, but the handle barely went up and down at all and no water came out. (Yep...did fill the tank.) Resorted to old fashioned water hauling for the weekend (good job for boys). I'd like to be able to use the hand pump and tank water for dishwashing, so it would be nice to get that working. The manual for my 1995 Coleman Utah is pretty much useless on this topic. (Ordered by phone from Coleman......oh well.) Can someone fill me in on the steps that should make the hand pump operate correctly?

I had to replace my two way hand pump recently.  The handle was cracked so I replaced the entire unit.  They also make just a repair kit (gaskets, diaphrams, etc).  Company name is Leisure Components.  I found both the faucets and the repair kits on Amazon.com.  The repair kit is part 199-9 and was about $16.

I have used my handpump often.  You have to pump it a few times to get the water up from the tank but then it just works.  You may need to replace the gaskets like taxguy suggested.

***Question*** I assume you have a similar set up to me with 2- 5 gallon jugs in the cabinet.  When you connect the hose to the jug, is there a piece of hose that extends into the bucket? When I got my pup I saw it and was like what the heck is this.  I was going to toss it and then I figured out what it was for.

You have to make certain the connecting water line connections are tight (and the water line is not leaking). After a time the diaphragm inside the  pump will go bad and that's where the repair kit comes in handy. Also, one winter I did not purge all the water out of the pump, which froze and cracked the base of the pump having to replace the entire unit.

Here's link for replacements ~

Since you are trying to pump, I'm guessing you were trying to use water from your tank? If so, make sure the city water intake is capped off or you will never be able to build any pressure in the line.

I posted a similar question about the pump. When it did pump, I got water in the cabinet.
The diaphragm broke/ripped/rotted and it was sucking air and a little water.

I just ordered the repair kit from Amazon "Leisure Components 199-9 Repair Kit for Hand Pumps"
for 16.46 plus shipping.

The whole thing is available for $35.07 plus shipping.

Pull it apart and check the o-rings. Or it could be as simple as needing lubrication. Try that first!

Thanks for all of the suggestions! One more question....should the handle pull all the way up when pumping it?? (It doesn't seem to pull up very far, and I feel like I'm not doing something right.)
