Coleman Lift System Repair Manual
« on: May 23, 2012, 09:58:38 PM »
My husband and I recently purchased a new-to-us 2001 Coleman Westlake. We took it out for a long weekend and had no problems raising or lowering the roof. We got back home and tried to raise the roof to empty and clean the trailer but it's suddenly giving us problems.

I've downloaded and printed the Lift System manual provided on here (thank you by the way  :)) But I noticed it only goes up to 2000 models. Is there a different manual I should be searching for? I just don't see our model in there, although the 2000 Bayside 12 ft sounds close.

Help please :)

When my husband was cranking it up it got about a foot high but after that only 3 of the 4 posts were rising. The 4th one wasn't moving.

Ok, look underneath the trailer, is one of the lift cables loose or broken?

He says that one of the cables looks loose but he can't get under far enough to touch it to determine if it's actually broken. Our driveway is quite steep and he wants to get the trailer on level ground before he gets right under it [:!]

I'm with DH on this one - get it someplace a bit more level before you try to climb under it.

As Raycfe said, the lift system didn't change much after the 2000 model year - if it changed at all (and I don't think it changed at all between 2000 and the 2001 model years.) Between the lift system manual and the parts manual Raycfe linked you to, you should be able to handle just about everything in the lift system.

All of the cables will be loose with the roof down. Some will be looser than others, but all of them will be loose to some degree because there is no weight or stress on the system at all. With one lift arm not working, best case is a cable slipped off a pulley. Worst case, a cable snapped. With the manuals, you can easily fix either or both of those conditions.

Good luck, and please let us know how it goes!

You guys are all amazing...thanks for the info, tips, links and advice. Good to know about the cables being loose when the roof is down, makes sense but we're pretty new to tent trailers lol. I'll keep you all posted once we get it levelled safely.

Darn a cable is shredded :( DH and a friend are looking at it now. Those manuals and the parts link above are gonna come in handy.

My cable broke this afternoon while I was cranking up the roof :(    Getting ready to go camping, so if it was going to break, at least it wasn't at the site.  I have a 1990 Coleman Americana Series, Model "Alta," which is not listed with the the other repair manuals.  Any ideas as to where I could locate one?
Thanks!

Hello...I have a 2001 Coleman Cheyenne..it does not have a wiffle tree..it just has a cable that runs from the spool where the crank is then through a pulley parallel to that and into the center where it joins the other cables all running into a plate....is this normal..or am I missing something ?

Hootie,
Asking a question in one place is usually sufficient.  I answered your other post.
