Replace rubber gasket around door with Velcro
« on: March 28, 2007, 07:22:28 PM »
I just finished a mod that I have been thinking about for some time. We have a 1985 Coleman Shenandoah that we are the original owners of. The door has a plastic part that a rubber seal on the canvas was pressed into. Part of the plastic part on one side had started to break & the rubber seal on one side was starting to tear. This didn't give us much of a seal around the door. I decided that it was time to bring this part of the trailer into the 21st century. I drilled out the rivets holding on the plastic parts. I removed the canvas panels by the door and had the wife carefully pick out the stitching holding on the rubber seal. I went to Home Depot & found some 1" angle aluminum and attached that on to the side of the door with rivets. We bought some Velcro Decor, one side sew on, the other side adhesive. We sewed the sewn part onto the canvas and then put the adhesive part of the Velcro onto the angle aluminum attached to the door. It was a great mod.
Here is a link if this works so that you can check out the project. Also on there is replacement on my old thermostat with a digital thermostat.

That came out really nice looking.  I have a 95 Coleman and the seals are not bad, but if they do go I am going to have to remember that.  Also I just picked up that same thermostat form Target for $7.50 on clearance, and am glad to see that it will work.
