Well, here we go! Just a neighbor and I starting on this roof project . Yesterday was day 1 and it took hrs to get that a/c off of the roof. Gasket must have sealed good! After removal we were pleasantly surprised to see the wood framework is perfect.
We're thinking that the back half of the roof is fine. We'll see.
Took the hard walls down and that's all we had time for. One came down and smashed my finger. (It's ok )
    Next week will be warmer.
I will post pics as we move along.

Whats the plan for the roof? I see the side boards need rebuilding are you planning on rebuilding the entire roof or just the sides and then sealing and coating the roof m

Definitely new sideboard. I think after we take those off we're going to start peeling off the roof covering from front to back and see how far the wood underneath is bad. This is a first time learning experience for both of us.

So, this board that flips down before pulling bunk out is starting to rot. Only about an inch. Trying to decide what to do. I'd like to replace the whole board to make it right. How to get the skin off without damage is my concern.

Got the trim off gently with putty knife and hammer. It's rotten on the bottom too. So, gonna replace board. Hope that I can get the skin off intact. 20180219_165339.jpg

Well I rebuilt the end boards. Was a struggle to get the trim on!

Took off the trim that goes around the bottom off the roof. Most time consuming is cleaning all of the old glue off! 15197867694811815518740.jpg 1519786826141278441333.jpg

Well I scraped all of the Styrofoam insulation off. It doesn't look like I can save hardly any wood. I think I'm going to add 1 or 2 extra supports on this front section. There is nothing there for 6 feet. 15209711367671592389704.jpg 15209711946271906524708.jpg

I have a roof rack on my Tahoe if needed. I think if I mount anything to the roof it'll be a solar panel. I'll think about that later. For now I gotta replace the bad wood and put in insulation. I hope that this JM foil-faced foam sheathing will be good. Haven't decided on what to use for ceiling.

Well I've decided to replace the top skin of the camper. If I'm going to rebuild the frame, insulation and ceiling I should do it all new. This Filon has got tears and holes that I was gonna patch but, there's to much damage. 1522107583986246550925.jpg

So, after a lot of confusing research I'm leaning towards the Superflex roof. 8.5' x 15'. I found it on Amazon for 179.99. If anyone reads this and has an opinion please share.

Go with the 9' so it will cover the sidewalls also.

I was thinking about whether the 8 1/2 wide or the 9 1/2 wide.. The existing top is 7 1/4 wide. The sideboard which I'm wanting to cover also is at it's most width is 5 1/8" x 2.

I read a post were the guy wrapped the rubber up under the sides right into the interior for dry edges. He even folded the corners like wrapping a present and used a heat gun on the folds to make them blend into a sealed edge.
