Well, I thought I was going to get to use my newly aquired Pop up this last weekend. I've only owned it for a couple of weeks now, and last weekend was to be the maiden voyage. I took off work early in the afternoon on Friday and heading up Lake Isabella where I had paid for two nights of camping. I arrived before dark and proceeded to set things up. After that I fixed myself some dinner. Not much,, just chilibeans and bread washed down with Iced tea. I was really beginning to enjoy my first camping trip with a pop up. Then I got the TEXT message from my sister. It read "Gayle passed at 4 p.m. this afternoon." Gayle is my younger sister. She had been very ill for over a month, but had started to improve. It hit me like a hot poker in the pit of my stomach. I had just spent the weekend with her a month ago. After a good cry, I decided that I just could not stay the night by myself. So I decided to pack things up and head for home. I was onsite for only 4 hours. I finally got under way well after dark. I travelled the dark windy mountain road with occasional tears in my eyes until I reached the top of Walker Pass. I stopped there for a few minutes just to think about things. I arrived home safely at 9 p.m. and then the phone calls began. It was to be a nice weekend with Mother Nature, but Mother Nature had other ideas.
