Ok so really that's two issues. One problem is that it's not igniting but the weirder problem is that even if the furnace switch is off, it blows air. The only way to stop it is to pull the fuse. I'm hoping that if I take it out and clean everything up we might be good on the igniter but what about the air thing?

Is there a separate on/off switch on the thermostat apart from the temp setting? I had thought that pushing the temp all the way down would turn it off, but then learned there is a separate off switch on the bottom of the thermostat.

Nope. Just on the furnace. But even if there was one I'd think the furnace switch would be the master. I'm just perplexed why it would blow even when switched off. :(
Of course the thermostat is old as is the furnace) maybe it's a combination of problems

Looking at the manual, the blower function is controlled by the DSI board. The BLW connection feeds the fan motor. Could be a small relay on the board that has failed "closed".
