A question for you cold weather campers...

We have a 2007 Rockwood with the propane furnace with electric ignition. We have only had it out twice, but it has been cool enough at night that we want a little heat, mostly for the DS, 2 yrs. old.

I am thinking that something is wrong with the furnace or thermostat! I set the temp on the thermostat to get the heat going, and it does! It gets hot inside, around 80 deg. Then, it runs fan only for a while, and shuts off. Obviously it starts to cool off, but gets all the way down to 60 deg. before turning on again, and warming up to 85 again. This doesn't seem right to me!

Is this how they all work with the cheap thermostats that are used?
Do I need to turn this in for warranty replacement?
If this is pretty normal, does the change to the digital style help this problem?

It gets us plenty warm! We start to sweat, then it cools off so much that you get cold, and cycle through the whole process over again!

Any info and/or experience will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Do a search on Thermostats...seems like I have read that there is an adjustment in the stat for the cycling period. Most people have just replaced the cheap stats with ones from Home Depot or the likes

    Eyefly,

This is from the thermostat manual that came with my 2007 Rockwood...

sympton- Furnace cycles too fast or too slow-
    narrow or wide tempature swings

    Corrective action- Adjust anticapator...
quote-The anticipator should be set to match the current rating(amps) stamped on your main heating control Adjust the anticipator by rotating the contact arm. The anticipator setting is indicated by the numbers on the base that the pointer points to. (It looks like a timer dial in the diagram). Move the pointer counterclockwise to lenghten heating cycle, move clockwise to shorten cycle. Adjustments should not be greater than 1/2 marking at a time. -end of quote

    hope this helps

    Chris

    Thanks Chris!
I need to go get my manuals out! I will have to play with the settings, etc. Not sure how this will work now, as the temps are in the 80's here now, and I would have to run A/C and furnace to keep the temp down to test it....

    Summer is coming fast!

    Thanks for the info!
