Last fall we purchased a 92 coleman arcadia. We are third owner and the person we bought it from said he had never used the water heater and he didn't know if it worked. Well, now we know why. We decided it might be nice to have hot water with a shower, so started investigating. I filled up the tank and water was everywhere. After ripping off insulation, there is a 4 inch gash at the top of the tank along a seam. My question-has anybody sucessfully patched a tank, or would you recommend replacing the whole unit? Likely other parts of the heater do not work as well, so if we replace the tank, we would just replace the whole unit. Comments?

It would appear that someone didn't winterize the trailer properly and it froze and split the tank. Replace it.

Thanks for the opinions. After doing a bit in research online, it would be less hassle to just replace the whole unit. Next question- the old unit is an Atwood G6A-6. Can anybody tell me the opening requirements for the Atwood G6A-7? My hope is that we could pull the old one out and not have to modify the opening for the new unit. Atwood website states that the G6A-7 is the replacement for our old unit, but I don't find opening demensions anywhere.

Go here for the manual. http://www.aero-rv.com/scripts/pdfretail/get.php?id=75

The size of the cutout is given at the top of page 2.

Thank you for posting that link. Looks like it requires roughly the same size opening.
