This is my favorite, local campground.
I've been camping here since I was a teenager. Tent, hammock, truck camper and now the pop up.

It's not much of a "trip" for us, but has been great for a getaway the last couple weekends.
Not a long trip up to Thomas/Davis area for dinner, supplies, or live music.
I'm finding the pop up is much nicer than a tent.
Need to find something? Turn on the light.
Thirsty in the middle of the night? Grab a cold bottle of water from the fridge.
Bugs eating you up at the picnic table? Go inside and close the door.

I liked my old truck camper, but the PUP is much easier to deal with.

Good looking setup! You don't always have to travel far to be a world away [:)C]

I'm just looking for quiet, and time with my wife away from everyone.
    No TV, internet, phone.
    Peace

Nice looking outfit. Glad you are enjoying the PUP as that is the purpose they are made. You are correct camping does not have to be far away to enjoy the outdoors, adventures are everywhere and depends on your state of mind, closer means you can get to camping in a shorter period of time because there are memories to be made and you can get on with your R&R (Rest and rejuvenation:)
Good luck and Keep On Camping

We went back to Horseshoe yesterday, even though the weather kept looking like rain.
A few showers in the surrounding area, but none at the campground.
We rolled in about 2, and the place was deserted. The host came over and asked if we needed anything, said they were going out for the night.
We went out for supplies, and enjoyed the peace and quiet. A motorcycle came in about 7, looked around and came over to ask us if the campground was open :D We told him it was, and he rode into the tent side of the campground to set up.
I hope these pictures work, if the link doesn't open just let me know and I'll fix them.

I was hoping to get at least one trip in after the Vermont rally, maybe I'll give it a shot. I'll check out Horseshoe while I'm there. I get half price at federal land.

Trout Pond is nice, but it can get crowded quick as its too close to the DC metro area

I figured that would be the case.
I don't have that overcrowding problem here, except on holidays. Which is when I avoid the campgrounds if I can.

Horseshoe doesn’t have many sites. I would think they would fill up fast.

For someone wanting peace and quite...Spruce Knob. The only time it is ever full is Memorial Day and the 4th.

It's also well off the beaten path, doesn't have full hook ups, pool, line dancing, and so on.
There is electric for the RV sites, the cleanest campground bathrooms that I've ever seen, and no shower house.

When I used to tent camp there they didn't even have electric.
They hope to have showers installed in the next few years, but since everything has to be US Gov code it's literally a $500K project.

Well I guess I'll skip that campground. No line dancing? What the hell?

    I know, right. :D
    Or Wi-fi.
But it's about 15 minutes to here. http://purplefiddle.com/ And a few good places to eat, a couple breweries and so on.
I think that Horseshoe is mostly used by local folks, and those who tend to roam backroads.
It's not fancy enough for the big RV crowd, and the road in is too narrow/windy for those rigs anyway.
Several hiking/biking trails from out of or near the campground, and quite a few more up on the hill in Davis.
