Today in Central Illinois temperatures got into the 60's. Can't stay home when it is that nice.

We drove over to LeRoy, IL to visit the Moraine View State Park that is still closed courtesy of our former Governor Blagojevich. Most of the area is barricaded. The lake is still open for fishing and there were lots of ice fishermen/fisherwomen on the ice. (Although, the ice looked very watery on top, it must still be deep enough to fish on)

Anyway, it was so lovely to walk around the area. We may not be able to camp yet, but it was a great day for a walk. We walked around a few barricades and enjoyed the park. We stayed on the roads and just walked around. Makes me wish it would stay like this so we could start camping.

Hopefully, the new Governor will get our state parks opened back up soon. What a waste of some great areas.

It was just a great day to be outside.

Spring may be here before we know it.

We spent many summers in Southern IL at Garden of the Gods, Cave in rock, dixon springs, fern cliff, giant city and down on Lake of Egypt in my younger days. We are talking about a return trip at some point in time

I'll see if I can find and post the articles about our new Governor...

But from what I recall, Quinn is looking into Re Opening all of the Parks and Historic Sites that Blago closed. The day or two after Blago was Ejected, Quinn was pretty quick to announce that the parks Will be re opened. <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_happycamper.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Happy Camper">

Our new governor signed a bill the other day restoring the money Rod took away. We are hopeful the closed parks will be open before spring.

About 2/3 rd's into the Article is what caught my eye the other day. (Last Week.)

    <BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana,Arial,Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote> Some of Quinn's gestures to show there's a new guy in charge have been more subtle.

He spent his first night on the job at the Executive Mansion and started moving in. Blagojevich had refused to move from Chicago to Springfield, irking downstate voters.

In his first news conference as governor, Quinn said he wanted to reopen the seven state parks and 11 historic sites Blagojevich closed last year because of budget cuts. But he didn't say how he would pay for that amid a budget deficit he has said could top $4 billion.

"I think it's squeezing a nickel to close parks and historic sites," Quinn said. "You squeeze a nickel and lose a half dollar. That's not smart government." <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana,Arial,Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

Here's one of the Articles I had in mind to post in it's Entirety. New Illinois Gov. ~ Re Open The State Parks story.

I am Hopefully Optimistic that things will soon get better here in Illinois.

Now, if he can reopen them, AND bring back Brent Manning to head up the DNR again, we will be in business. Brent did a great job promoting, and keeping the parks nice.

    Cheers, JC

**Sorry guys, typed this before I saw there was already a post announcing it :)

Hey everybody, in case you didn't hear our great news in Illinois, our new Governor has re-opened the parks closed by our embarrasing former gov.!!!! With Quinn we finally have a Gov. who cares about the whole state, and not just corrupt Chicago. We have beautiful parks in this state and it is darn near criminal to take them away from the taxpayers.

I can't wait for spring so we can get out there and camp!

I'm just glad that Quinn seems to have a brain. I mean, not only did Blago take those parks away from us taxpayers... but did that dofuss ever think about Tourism Revenues that may come from Out of State to visit the parks he closed?

I doubt it. I'd bet that just slipped his mind, huh? As you said, Valerie, Blago only cared about the Chicago Machine and all of the BS that's in C"R"ook County.

Happy Camping once again! <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_happycamper.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Happy Camper"> Not only to us Illinoisans, but also to the folks that visit from out of State. <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle alt="Approve">
