January 2010 Recipe of the Month Title: Boiled Ham Dinner (Dutch Oven) Member: 01YZF6 Granted this was my first ever DO cooking experience, but it came out amazing ! Serving Size: 6-10 people Ingredients: 1 market ham - size depends on size of your pan or DO ( I do not recommend the spiral type) 2 head of cabbage 2 bunch of carrots ( bagged or fresh) 10 white potatoes or 6 large idaho bakers 1 seasonings of your choice 1 bag of charcoal Water Directions: Wash all vegetables chop cabbage into small quarters cut white potatoes into quarters, no need to peel ( if using large idaho bakers peel then cut) cut carrots into 2" sections then cut in 1/2 or 1/4 the long way lightly mix together in large bowl get charcoal or cooking fire going so cooking temp will be 350-425 degrees (approximate) place ham in center of pan spread cut pieces of cabbage, carrots, and potatoes around ham season with spices as desired to your own taste ( salt, pepper, fresh garlic, onion salt etc etc) Fill DO or pan with water until all vegetables are covered and water level is almost to the top of ham. (DO will be 1/2 - 3/4 filled with water) every 30 minutes carefully lift lid and check contents ( water should be simmering or at a low boil) lightly stir vegetables around, replace lid. Prep Time: 20 minutes Cook Time: 1.5 to 2 hours Note: I have an 11 qt DO but this will work if you have a turkey pan with cover ( a campfire or grill will work with the pan) Click Here to learn how the contribute a Recipe or Read Previous Ones!
