Sometime around 1999-2000 a barge company started rv tours on the Mississippi ending up in New Orleans. You loaded your rv on at St Louis and went to N.O.
I haven't heard anything about them lately.
I was wondering if anyone knew if they were still in existence and if anyone had taken the trip?
The pictures I had seen showed TT and motorhomes. A PUP would certainly be more like a Huck Finn experience.

39 days booked for 08. 2 nights camped in 08
Camping season is just too short.

i vaguely recall reading about this, and it sounds intriguing so i did a quick google 'barge rv trip'.
i founda an 1996 article - the cost was pretty high:

and i found another forum that indicates the trips are no more:
(is it gauche to post a link to a different rv forum here?)

    Thanks,

The lost posting on the web I could find was 1999.

It sounded like something that you would do once in a lifetime.

With the price of Diesel fuel those tugs hauling those barges, the price would probably double.

3000 - 5000 dollars, I could drive and stop when I want along the Mighty Mississippi, take the scenic routes along some of the highways that parallel the river, and I'd still have lots of money left over, to rent a boat for a couple days and do some fishing.
