We just bought a 1987 coleman chesapeake pop up. It does not have a water tank so when we hooked up the water to the camper the water came pouring out of the facuet and we couldn't get the facuet to shut off. What are we doing wrong?

Welcome from the West Virginia mountains.. It would be helpful if you could post a picture of the facuet

First things first; after the pic anyway, are you using a pressure regulator? Pup plumbing can’t handle what comes from a residential hose as the pipes are quite a bit smaller. So start there. Second there could be an issue with the faucet itself. It’s a pretty basic system; water comes in from the hose goes out thru the drain

Like emoney said, you need a pressure regulator. If the water pressure is too high, the faucet can't shut off. You can test this by barely turning the the water in the hose, if with the water barely on you can close the faucet, that's the problem.

Make sure the handle is up all the way ...... and if you can look underneath the faucet that the water hose is connected to the center port.

The faucet is called a low-boy faucet.

Where would the pressure regulator be if the camper had one?

Sounds like the hose isn't connected correctly. IIRC the city water goes too the center and the other port gets capped.
