1600 homes and buildings destroyed. Nearly as many families now homeless! 10000 hectares burned! Fire Crews being flown in from all over the Continent and by all accounts the fires are still not under control. Devastating!

My daughter is a RCMP officer in Ft McMurray, she just lost everything from her home burning down, despite this, she is on duty right now and now they are about to evacuate Anzac Alberta where they are stationed. She is saddened about her loss and we feel so helpless being so far away.

yes....now emergency command is moving to Lac La Biche 2.5 hours away. They had set up an evacuation center and emergency command in Anzac and now the Fire is working around the lake towards Anzac and everyone is being evacuated.

They are sending fire trucks and crews in from Edmonton and Calgary and there are now 300 RCMP members already there from various detachments to assist the Ft McMurray RCMP.

Fire breaks don't always help. They where saying that embers, from wild fires, could travel 2 to 3 km. So a lot farther than a fire break would help.

Just read on-line in the National Post: "Fort McMurray fire now too large, too fierce to stop without rain". The actual wildfires are over 500 square miles in size, while the pyrocumulous clouds created by the fires are causing lightning strikes. Over 100 strikes caused 12 new fires yesterday. The only good news is that the winds will stay in a consistent direction until at least Saturday. Fire crews can now at least predict where it is going. Thoughts and prayers!

The police are escorting those who were evacuated North to the camps. They are escorting in groups of 50 cars 20 Kms South of Ft McMurray and releasing them to head South to Edmonton and Calgary for much needed support. Canada is coming to their needs. My daughter who is a police officer along with the rest of the members in Ft McMurray who has been working relentless days under very trying circumstances will be relieved by other RCMP detachments from Alberta and Saskatchewan to get much needed and deserved rest. They have been so busy that they haven't had a chance to count their own losses. We are trying to see if we can meet her in Edmonton if there is any hotels available.

Would love to except I haven't had a chance to de-winterize and inspect all the systems yet. We still have to find out what her needs are first and assist her any way that we can and I know that accommodations is going to be one of them. Once they have a handle on Ft Mcmurray, I am sure that they will be bringing in temporary lodging for the First responders. The biggest issue will be to make sure all the utilities are restored and do continuous patrol.
