So I snapped the handle off my freshwater tank drain valve.

Has anyone replaced one of these?

    I've found direct replacements ( https://www.hannarv.com/P/7429/CamcoDualSizeDrainValve38Or12InchMPTBarbWithoutFlange )
But has anyone done anything fancy / different that I should look at. I see references from 2010 that it's common for people to replumb them, but nothing with pictures.

I replaced mine - I think I ordered it from somewhere, I'll need to look. Mine was broken like yours, and the replacement was a direct replacement. I never used the freshwater tank, but figured I should fix it just in case. On my last trip I thought I would check it, and discovered it was leaking a little around the threads. I am going to take it off and put some vinyl tape on it and see if that solves the problem.

i had the same issue last year
i unscrewed it directly out of the tank, went to home depot and go a bigger beefier looking valve,
reinstalled with some teflon tape and voila!
better heat resistant valve and easier to use

Yes, mine just unscrewed. Learn from me and use some Teflon tape on the threads.

Mine just unscrews. Now is the time to replace it with a barb fitting some vinyl hose and a shut off near the edge of the camper to make it easier to use.

If you reuse the existing hose, trim 1/2" off before installing.
