This is somewhat of a Mod that I have in mind for my plain ol' White W/T 1500 truck. I'm wondering if I can make it almost look like a Big Ol Boat of a car that it sure feels like I'm driving these days.

    Here's the truck. ...

    And here's a '55.

A "Woodie" pops into my mind - a Woodie Wagon! Some trim pieces, adhesive backed woodgrain material and wide white walls may give the illusion of the old surfer style. The two tone paint scheme of the '56 might work. To me, it is a little more defined with the long stripe running forward. The profile of your preferred model could simply be painted on the sides, stretched to the trucks wheelbase. I dunno -

I was just thinking... WHAT A STRANGE IDEA!!!!!!!!!

I vote for the '57 look, but only because, long, long, long ago, I had one. Bur the Woody look would be neat, and with the cab-over you have more of a 'wagon' look.
Can you paint in the winter?

That looks pretty darn good, Steve! Wow!!

I was just thinking of having a sign company produce for me (if possible) the side chrome moldings in a vinyl applique to give it the added stripe. If I went with the '56 stripe, I'd probably also fill in the tu tone look with a blue paint to have it go with the blue interior.

I didn't think the '57 design would work so well, cause the truck is obviously missing the backward sweep of the fins, but I am impressed with how it turned out in that pic you made. Very nice, and that black cap really goes well with the red paint. Some fender skirts would help too I think.

And some '57 door handles, hood ornaments, grille molding....

Looks like the '57 is the choice. Our local 'Sign Zoo' makes those skins for autos and busses for ads. We use them to make our banners at the Ringling Museum of Art too. They could make the skin for your truck, without painting. Of course, cost is never a problem???

Here's a woodie that could deal with the cab-over!

that would be an awesome project!

Last time I saw a '57 with that paint scheme was on the side of a bar in Charleston IL we frequented while in college. I always thought it was a waste of a nice car body to be cut in half and stuck up on the side of a brick building.

Scott, if you do this project you've GOT to post pics as you work!

What started out as an idea (and a strange one too, I'll agree with Twisty on that).... seems to be somewhat of a hit!

I saved that Photo Shop pic to my PC, sent it to my new digital camera, and took that with me to my brother's place this afternoon. Everyone who saw it thought it was awesome, even my dad.... and he hates that truck. (big ole gas hog, ya know. I hear it every day now since I drive it only in the winter)

As can be seen in the real pic of my truck, the paint does need some help. NO rust, but I do have that peeling issue going on. As previously mentioned, I had no intention of painting the truck, and I didn't think the '57's design would work. Well, I was wrong, wrong, wrong.

I may have to really take a look at what I can afford to do on this come next springtime. I do happen to have most (if not all) of the shop equipment needed to do this paint job myself. I've re colored vinyl dash before. A gray or black should cover the blue nicely. A seat cover is simple to do. And door panels are easy to find in an auto grave yard. Ohh.... if I do this, believe me. There will be Pics a Plenty!

This Project would have been cool to see it happen. But...

I think it's 'Dead in the Water' at this point.

I should be Upgrading to a '98 E 250 Van in the next week or so. This changes Everything!!

Scott, How's the paint on the van? That's the vehicle you should try to give the 'woodie' look to. Maybe airbrushing some surfboards on too!

Hi, Pat. The '59 looks pretty good too, but I think the tail end of that Bat Wing look would be Awful Difficult to reproduce with a Paint Job!

Alan, after I remove the lettering from my dad's former Company (where I'm getting the van from) it'll be a dig ol' Plain White Box! Here's a Sample Pic that I found online that comes very close to what I'm gonna get looks like.

I'll have a Clean Canvas to work with when I get it. The Stock Paint is in good condition, and boy do I EVER have ideas running in my mind as to what to do with it.....

Remember the Custom Vans that were so popular back in the later '70's?

    I do!!!

I do too. I used to cruise to high school in a 1976 3/4 ton GMC van, changed it from a passenger van to a camper van. I wonder if I have any pics that I can scan in. Even today I drive a VW Eurovan with seats that fold into a bed in back!
