Haven't used the furnace in over a year and this happens.....

Arm and Hammer used to make a similar product (likely calcium chloride). I had something similar on my sailboat and kept a few in the wet locker and salon, same idea in a different container...

Haven't used the furnace in over a year and this happens.....

Besides the old power roof winch on my Rockwood, the other system I have recently given up on is my furnace. The fan in the DS17 Suburban furnace has always been very noisy, very power hungry (2.5 A) and now pulses in speed (it's not the battery). The fan does not always swing the sail switch...

    14 rockwook Power winch

I also was glad to be rid of the electrical demon on my Rockwood. I bought a replacement winch off of Amazon that has a built in brake that holds the roof weight as it is cranked up and offers resistance as it is cranked down. I believe it was a bit over $100. It was an easy install.

    Charging battery

Very odd to be told that. I mean what are you supposed to do if when your case battery is flat. It's bound to happen. I have an older Rockwood and the older winch style, but it had a 3/8 hex nut on top of the winch that you could spin to raise or lower the roof either with a handle or a power...

2000 Utah: buying add a room

If If you lived in Ontario, I would give you the one that came with our 12' Rockwood. I hated it! I think it's a "Carefree in Colorado". Bought a Gazelle instead that sets up in 1-2 minutes. The add-a-room would take about 30 minutes to set-up when I could remember how it went together. I'm...

    Electrical Issue- 2013 Shamrock

Had a similar problem that I never saw before develop on our last trip. It had been raining shortly after we arrived and I noticed that my 3 110V outlets in my camper (2 inside and 1 outside) were not powered. I finally figured that I had an extension cord plugged in to my outside plug...

How do you set up your awning?

I have a similar trepidation for my awning. It might be "Carefree in Colorado", but it is not when I use it where I camp. I have kept the awning bag on the pup but am seriously thinking of removing it. The bag zipper is shot, the vinyl awning is stained and the poles and adjusters/closures are...

    Raccoon Buffet Worries

S Sure, critters are about everywhere. Everything in the TV, at night. Funniest raccoon story happened to our grumpy neighbour at Rock L/Algonquin last year. Two AM and my wife and I heard the buggers coming. We rolled the window down to watch the show. There was a group of 12 or more working...

Please help! No hot air from furnace, fridge not working.

I agree with Joer. I have a small window on my Suburban heater and can watch for spark at the igniter. These are fairly easy to order and replace, but try scuffing the metal as Joer mentions. Also, is your sail switch closing? Take the front of the panel off your heater and watch for fan speed...

    Awning: repair or trash it?

I feel your pain. I hated the engineering of my awning but appreciated it's limited usefulness. "Carefree in Colorado" it was not (what an oxy-moronic name). I got tired of being bonked on the head with falling poles, fingers pinched by those thumb locks, pieces of the pole locks falling on the...

How does that happen? Axle came unbolted from frame...

Good heavens. I am checking mine as soon as I pull it from it's winter cave. Sorry for your troubles but I appreciate the heads-up! Glad you caught it before an accident occurred.

Electric winch problems on day 1

Hi RBC, I didn't mean to tell you to throw out your lift motor. Since you have a new camper you will have the latest lift motor from Forest River. The new motors don't seem to have the issues I mentioned. They changed motors sometime about 2010. My camper is older and had the under powered lift...

Electric winch problems on day 1

Hi RBC, I have the same model. Mine is a 2006. I happily threw away the electric lift motor, as the older models were horribly under powered. I hated it. The emergency manual lift nut welded on to the top of the motor shaft spun off. The nut was never engineered to be the primary point of spin...

    converting inverter generator to propane

I have no experience on conversion kits but I can vouch for propane generators. I have a 6 kW Champion duel fuel on my back deck plumbed to my home propane and use it for home power outages, which we have about 4 a year where I live. We recently ran it for 24 hours during a nasty wind storm. It...

Camco travel toilet, "does anyone have one"?

I gave up on the portable toilets having had small leaks or seals eventually wear out. The simplest and least expensive solution for us was a "Luggable Loo" and "Double Doodie Bags". They work very well for our needs. I even used it in the washroom at the home once when we experienced a 24 hour...

Propane fire pit vs wood based

We acquired ours this year from Home Depot and like it immensely. We gave up on wood fires. With so many people camping this year, wood smoke became a toxic curse at many sites we camped at. The air quality was probably better in a congested city than at a remote camp ground with a 200 lit...

Canoe vs. kayak for PUP hauling & camping

We got lucky with this dog. Being an older lab (8) she has no fear of water and she sits very quietly near the centre. Occasionally she adjusts her sit and we may have to adjust ourselves slightly to keep the canoe flat but she can literally sit for about 1 hour in the canoe. She does lie down...

Canoe vs. kayak for PUP hauling & camping

Hi... I can see the value in either choice and I recently faced the same dilemma. I choose the canoe, mainly because of it's carrying capacity. My wife and I camp with our black lab and occasionally one of our grown children or with a friend, so it had to be big enough for 3 adults and a dog...
