I lifted it so I could put some real tires on it and get some more clearance on bad forest service roads. We had an almost identical popup a decade ago and went through 4 tires on a month long road trip. Wanted real radials this time. It raised it about 4".
The tow vehicle just happens to have...
Good morning,
I flipped the axle on my '05 Fleetwood Tucson and need a pretty significant rise on the hitch to tow it level.
I know they sell the hitches as "drop -OR- rise", but are there any safety concerns using a hitch that's at a 10" or even 12" rise? It looks a little funny - especially...
Sure did. No response yet. They are pretty great, but I wanted to post it up here to the popup pros. Folks here have a much deeper knowledge specific to these campers for sure.
Well, I could take a picture, but the whole this is buried under 3 feet of snow right now. Record breaking storm has us stuck for 5 days straight now. Crazy!
You might be on to something with the swing clearance. I'll check that when I can get access again.
From what I tell, the new jacks that don't have wheels don't have removable stands where I could put a wheel on there. Wheels are available - and relatively cheap - but all the "inner tubes" that have the stand plate appear to be welded on.
I have some too-heavy-to-ship stuff if anyone is interested. In King County Washington.
3 stock stabilizers from a Fleetwood Tucson (like a Taos, Cobalt, etc.). Probably very similar or identical to a few other models as well.
2 hitch receivers. Basically new. I'd have to check specs for sure...
So I've been looking through countless trailer jacks and not finding what I think I need. Wondering if I'm looking for something that doesn't exist.
I have a welded on snap ring jack on my popup camper. I did the "axle flip" and now it doesn't offer me the range I want. Sounds like a simple...
Paul - My original question about strengthening the bumper was because I was considering an add-on tire mount. Most are meant to go on full-tube frames, so I was inquiring about adding it onto a weaker C channel bumper. In the end I decided rather than figure out a new mount to just repair and...
I have considered a 3rd stud. I'm not sure it will add that much stability, but at this point I'm pretty happy with overkill. That whole piece is surprisingly weak and it would be pretty horrible to have it bouncing around the freeway at 70 mph. Seems as simple as drilling 1 hole and adding some...
Final result on the tire mount fix. Had a neighbor who was willing to repair the broken weld seam and create a new reinforcement (the triangle in the pics). I got it all painted and remounted and it works great. Solid. Fits. Works. I replaced the hardware with stainless bolts and as long as the...
Perfect. I really appreciate you taking the time to snap the pic and give me a description. I'm having my welding done on Saturday. I'll post how it turns out!
Thank you! So if I'm seeing this right, the plate is set in to the back? Looks like it was painted and you would have had to drill the 3 holes through the plate as well - is that correct? And the plate is only on the vertical part of the mount? The bottom (part that touches the bumper and...
Okay - I found a neighbor who has a welding setup. He's going to re-weld the failed seam. I'll ask him to reinforce the other two seams on the bottom as well.
Can you explain the plate steel piece you added? I'd love to beef this up as much as possible. I abandoned the idea of getting a new...
Wow! So many great responses. Thank you all.
Silvermickey, this is the exact bracket my Tucson came with (and still has attached). I just put on new wheels/tires. Slightly larger. When I mounted the spare, it bounced around a lot at the slightest touch. Turns out one of the welds has let go. I...
