I thought the same thing since I bought my tandem axle high wall Avalon, which was my dream popup. Then, taking inspiration from other trailers and combining them, I modified and built my dream trailer.
custom 24”x80” diamond plate storage box, 36” diamond plate deck with side storage boxes...
Only way to figure out if motor or lift system is to disconnect motor from wiffletree and test. My guess is the pulley system if you not able to turn the system manually. You can get someone at each corner to lift weight off the roof as you manually crank. Then you just have the cables...
Your lift system has current a limiter, which is how the up and down functions are accomplished. The limiter is the the plug that the remote is plugged into. There is a fusible link in the limiter that pops when it is over stressed and renders the system inoperable. The limiter is sealed so...
Wouldn’t exactly say a pattern. He was gone quite a spell with no word. Just about the time the portal changed. He was a very sick man from what I remember. Never said what, but was I’ll.
Hmmm....... I think the ransom demands are pending.....I think that is the same message he posted the last time he disapperated from the portal and returned mysteriously from a medical issue.
Just to check in logged a few thousand mikes this year with the new set up. Actually made it out for a three day’r in the pop up in June (camping good, popup bad cause I lost the roof lift motor). Manually lifting this beast was not fun. Then several trips to bodega bay, ghost mountain, Paso...
Thanks! I still have the old 99. It is parked in the place of shame right now. With 15k into it and 20 years investment in the old gal, I still can’t part with it. It will become a family heirloom and perhaps my grandkids (if I ever get any) will take up the legacy. For now, it will serve...
So, update on the 5’er saga.
As expected, I got ankle deep into pulling with my 99’ Dodge and of course the transmission went on strike. I had a trip planned and thus an emergency rebuild done in a week. I had a bullet proof rebuild done and it worked out beautifully. Pulled the 16k load...
Sorry about how long ago this was. I would not think the auto tape is removable. On the countertop maybe. On the roof, probably not. Applied properly, it holds like a nail. I would 5hink it’s gonna take a layer of someth8ng off if peeled or scraped. Maybe a heat gun and acitone.
I added a 5er to my repertoire and now have both. The 5er is for the longer hauls, over-nighters and luxury. The pup is National/state parks, remote boonbocking and rallies. Plan to pass the pup down to the kids one day while we spoil our future grandkids in the 5er.
So, if it is...
There is a state park in pismo beach where you can pull right out in the sand and set up. Make sure to set up far enough from high tide. Heard of a few people that needed a couple of pontoons by morning.....LOL

Thanks for the kind words all. The 5er came at least a year early than we planned, but then the sudden excitement only adds to the adventure doesn’t it. Yetavon, this rig is 50 amp with an auto 30 option (although I can only run 1 A/C on 30 ). I have half of your pupping experience (cudoes...
LOL Death Star! Nice!
It’s only 2500 lbs on the kingpin and 200 for the auto sliding plate. Plenty of spring pack and 5K air ride suspension. After market diff cover with 2 1/2 qt over OEM full synthetic on a Dana 70 HD 35 spline riding on LT295/75/R16 E’s wth 4:10 gearing. Not too worried...
I read lots of posts about the dark side. I began my pup life 17 years ago with my 2001 Niagara. My last trip in it was Death Valley in the springs of 2011. I nearly went to the dark a few years earlier and pulled out at the last minute. We eventually went to the behemoth pup Avalon in 2011...
