I recently purchased a 2018 Rockwood Roo 233s. I finally took it to storage and covered it and brought the 12v battery home. I checked it with my multimeter and got a reading of 7.78 or something along those lines. I decided to hook my battery charger up to it and the charger made a strange humming noise. After 10-15 seconds I took the charger off. The wires and alligator clips were real warm. I checked the battery again and it gave a .02 reading. I assume it fried the battery. Do you guys think my battery charger is also bad? This battery was brand new. I’m not sure why it read 7.78 in the first place. Any advice would be helpful.

Take the battery back to the dealer and ask for a warranty replacement.

The only thing that sucks is the dealer is 2 and a half hours away. Not sure it’s worth it with the time and gas I would pay.

Are you sure you didn't have the wrong clamp on the post? Camper positive wires are black. White is the negative.

what does brand new mean and how long has it been connected to the PU?

battery voltage should rise when charged correctly.

The co/propane detector will drain a battery in a week or 2, if ya don;t leave the PU plugged in one typically disconnects the battery to prevent discharge. A tiny bit of battery care is needed for a battery to last a long time

I don’t believe I did but I can’t be 100% sure. I do know that the battery is most likely shot. I guess I’ll have to buy a new one in the spring.

If 2.5hrs is too far, then you may consider calling or emailing the dealer to ask what you should do to have the battery checked out on warranty. I emailed a dealer many hours away about a battery and they told me all their batteries come from a certain national chain and to simply return it to my local store. Can't hurt to ask.

Problem is you cannot continue to trickle charge a wet battery without causing a decrease in the life of the battery. In the initial post his battery was below 8 volts and the only way to possibly revive it is by charging at at least 10 amps to heat it up.

There are a few rejuvenating techniques but usually below 8 volts is a goner.

Yesterday I actually charged it with the current charger I have at 10amps for a few hours. Today the reading was 12.3 so I plugged it in again for another 5 hours and I’ll check what it’s at again tomorrow. I assume it should be close to fully charged.

Sounds great you may have not damaged it to much but consider you may need to replace it sooner.[:D]

Sometimes you can get a top charge reading that won't hold up under load.

Just for clarity, when I said I have that charger I was talking about the one you listed not the one he linked.

Almost any auto parts store can test it to validate your results, but generally if it's only reading 7 volts then it's shot and can't be fully charged.
