I just found a 1992 Coleman Destiny series for $1750. The owner says that the canvas is in great shape. It has a stove and sink, but no fridge. I am just wondering if this is a good deal because it seems to be in Southern California.

    Thanks!!

Look at a lot more than the canvas, look at everything. Look for soft spots in the floor, the ceiling, look for caulking missing or gaps along the roofline that may mean water damage to the roof, look underneath it at the floor to see if it is uniform throughout, look at the cables, if it has them, to see if they have been lubricated. Set it up with the person to see if the bunk-ends come out easily. Crank it up to see how hard it cranks. In other words, take the time to investigate everything before deciding if it is a good value to you.

I baught a 1992 Palomino Filly for $1400. When we checked it out, we tried to check every thing. The ac worked, the bunk ends did slide in and out and the top lowered and raised. We forgot to check the roof end boards and they happened to be deterioriating.
The best advise to give is give it a good look over, knock on the roof, stomp (lightly) on the floor, open cabinets and really see it a home away from home. Even major repairs can be taken care of in a day or two unless you have to order parts.
I have replaced all the side boards, reinstalled all the roof hardware in a little over two days by myself. I am going to have to order a lifting arm from Palomino and it should take a week or so.
So stand in it and really picture yourself sleeping and living in it. (it is a lot better than sleeping in a tent).

Which Destiny series is it? There are several different 'sub models' if I'm not misteken. We purchased our 1994 Cedar (the Cedar is the smallest in the destiny series). for about $1700 with new canvas (within the last year) on it.

Check under the seat where the power comes in, I know ours had rats or mice in it at one point (they didn't to any damage though). Crawl under it and check the wood subflooring, push it and see if it feels firm.

Check NADA values. You will need the model name as stated before, there are several models in the series. You will probably be looking at he upper end of the price range given on NADA in California.

    Good luck!

We purchased our 1999 Jayco Eagle Qwest 10 for $1,850. We think that we might have paid too much considering that there is no shower, no air conditioner, a small hole in the upper part of the canvas and (as you can see by the pictures) mold and mildew. Brett will also have to run a bead of caulking all over the place, scraping off the old. Needs a new battery. And we just found out that one of the hubs is cracked (only a $60 fix). New tires will be needed, but only so that we feel safe taking it down the highway.

It was in otherwise good condition. Everything else worked on it and the floor was really sturdy. The roof is in great condition.

What made us purchase so quickly is that in our area they are going like hot cakes. We had one slip out of our fingers when the original owner decided to keep it and use it for the summer. Heartbroken, we turned to newspapers, nickel traders, internet searches, and roadside looks. After too long of a wait, we found this one and talked him down a little on the price.

Now, we are seeing that, though it could be taken out right away, we will have to spend about $250 to get it comfortably road-worthy. The shower was a luxury that we really needed, but marrying a carpenter seems to be a plus in this situation.

All in all, you may be shaking your head right now thinking that we made a mistake on the price, but we are happy to have one!

(And can't wait to get it on the road for the first time.)

Price is all relative to what you are willing to pay. Only you can determine if you paid too much. You have already spent the money so enjoy it and don't worry how much you paid for it.
