Hey all, I’m Ben, 1st time pup owner. Wanted to do more camping with the fam (4&6 yr old & wife) and down here in Florida that requires AC or your crazy!

I think we got a decent deal $1200, brand new tires, AC works, and interior isn’t torn up. My 1st line of business was to seal the roof, it’s an alumitite roof and after washing it you had bare metal and 29 tiny holes. I’m painting with elastomeric paint and will cover the holes with eternabond, along with removing the rails and eternabonding the seams underneath.

We are going to buy new foam mattresses, it came with the originals and then my wife will sew new curtains and covers for the cushions.

As I’m sure many other newbies have I’ve got a list of twenty different things to fix or change on it. Hoping to make our grand voyage this Father’s Day.

Any suggestions would be kindly accepted.

Welcome from N/W Fl panhandle. Congrats on the NTU PUP. You are correct about having an AC, the cool air also help keep the bugs at bay :). Sounds like you have the plan and will be having adventures and making memories really soon.

I think you got a great deal!!! I paid 1900 bucks and had to really do a deep cleaning. It's a great camper for a family. I wish the refrigerator was easier to access when the roof is down.

The roof issue is common. The aluminum is thin and it degrades in places. I had several little holes that opened into bigger ones just by sticking my finger into it. I did what this guy did:

The henry's product is really think and goes on easily. I spray painted the bare metal roof rack and plastic end caps with primer. I also lightly sanded the shiny white side of the eterna bond and hit it with primer. Do a good cleaning with TSP or something similar. Many other folks do the grizzly grip, but I think this product will work for my needs.

Tzmartin, that's the product I'm using. I happened to buy a 5 gallon of it to paint my porch roof and shed roof but still have over a gallon, I'm going to do 3-5 layers, I'm using a paint edger pad someone on here recommended.

I recommend just using a regular 2-3 inch brush to cut in the awkward places (rails, AC, and latch). I don't think a paint pad will hold enough product. I think i used about 2.5 gallons for 3 coats.

I have a weigh distribution hitch. Recently got a great deal on the 6K equal-i-zer hitch. Love how easy it is to use. I put timbren suspension enhancement on the rear. Installed a transmission cooler as well. It's great!
