OK, I see that the first Oklahoma Rally was started last year. However, this year we should be able to have some growth on the Oklahoma Rally.

Now, I realize that I am fairly new to the Pop-up scene; but, I have been camping for a very long time. So, please excuse my brashness in beginning this thread (and even attempting to hi-jack the Oklahoma Rally).

Last year Beerlifter and Compucamper got together at the Last Chance Campground and had the first Oklahoma Rally.

While I have not been to the Last Chance Campground, I understand that it is a very nice place, and last year the owners extended a special offer to portal members. (hmm... it almost seems as if I were a part of this last year ). So, I think that this campground may work for a 2008 Rally. If others feel differently, then we will need a campground that will take reservations (there are some nice Federal campgrounds that will meet this criteria). Last Chance is also more or less centrally located (a real plus with these fuel prices )

Finally we need a date. I suggest September 19-21. Why, no real reason the weather should not be too hot or too cold, and the date is after the labor day weekend.

Lets pick a date and a place and make this 2008 rally bigger than the first Oklahoma rally.

P.S. A big thanks to Beerlifter and Compucamper for beginning the Oklahoma Rally in 2007. .

Thanks to all in advance

Lets go!!! I'm open where and when for the rally. Last chance is limited to hookup sites but plenty of room for boondockers. Lets hear from all Okie's and from the others states.

mci5b,

Way to go....no one is limited by who can start a Rally and who can't. Picking a date, a place, and going for it is the way to start Rally planning....that avoids all the hassle of dancing around a date and people's favorite/closest CGs.

Good luck with the planning...hope you get a huge Rally going....

Ok, then Last Chance Campground on the Weekend of September 19 - 21 of 2008.

I just called the campground and talked to "Phil". He stated that they had not made any plans yet for the "Beans and Blues" this year. However, he stated with this much advance notice that they could plan the event around us (meaning that they could have it that weekend or another weekend).

He did ask me how many people we were expecting, and I told him (Then I said oh..... 4-8).

He said that we do not need to make reservations until about 4 weeks out; but, I am like a boyscout, and I like to be prepared. So, as soon as we all agree that this is the time and date, I think we should start making reservations with the campground. (besides there are only eight sites with hookups for those that want them).

He also told me that they have local talent with live entertainment every weekend in what they call the "Barn Dance".

I am in, and I think that the following are in as well
Compucamper
4sheds
Nittygritty

WOW four on the first day, and the day isn't even over yet!

Well you can't leave me out, I am the one that takes the reservations online for LCR and If I can't go NO ONE CAN!!! LOL!

Sounds super to me and if LCR doesn't work out (Beans & Blues fest gets rather wild sometimes!) I would still be game.

The "local entertainment" is a country band that is really awesome. If you visit the website look under the beans and blues link and there are some pictures.

Sept. would probably be a good time of year to go to LCR as CompuCamper well knows that there isn't a lot of shade to be had.

Keep the ball rolling mci5b and keep us posted.

Phil & Ann will do whatever they can to accomodate us I'm sure.

Of course we could not leave out one of the originators of the Oklahoma Rally. Beerlifter is in!

So far....
Mci5b - Oklahoma
Compucamper - Oklahoma
4sheds - Oklahoma
Nittygritty - Oklahoma
Beerlifter - Oklahoma

Ok, this Rally is off to a great start.
I think that we need a prize for the longest distance traveled.

Also, we need some event planning...

A fine Oklahoma winery known as the Grape Ranch is very close to the campground, and it is open seven days a week! I think that a group trip to the Grape Ranch just might be in order!

There is also a small Wild West Museum just up Highyway 48 to the south. Deep Fork WMA isn't that far either for the wildlife watchers. Lots of stuff around there. Just a few are mentioned at the website.

Also any input on the website would be greatly appreciated. I try to keep it updated and full of information.

Great job on getting the rally going. Steve (beerlifter) will be a good sorce for you to have. I am camping there the end of this month and Steve will be there also. He has alot of insight of the place. I know you couldn't make the Texas rally but real glad to see ya get the OK going. Sometime you might check out Wichita Mountain Refuge near Lawton. Its a neat place also but is alot more crowded than Last Chance. Good luck with your rally.

There are 10 sites with hook ups. In the past we have shared hook ups when we have been really busy. In that case one camper plugs into the 30 amp and the other will use a dog bone and just use the 20 amp. If we set the date in September I don't for see anyone needing there A/C so that shouldn't be a problem.

I for one would be willing to "boondock" if the need be. Lots and lots of room for that!

If anyone enjoys fishing be sure and bring your poles. Really good fishing on there 15 acre pond. I have caught several large mouth bass busting 7 lbs!

Kreich, we are still trying to schedule Wichita in. Going to be hard this year with going to Mo. in Mid july for the "other forum's" Mid-Con Rally. Looked at your pictures and they were awesome! If you liked it you should check into Greenleaf SP. Lots of wildlife there also.

I have camped in the Doris campground of the Wichita Wildlife Refuge. The buffalo that sometimes come close to the campground are just awesome. The hiking and site seeing in the Wildlife Refuge are just great. Additionally, they have a prairie dog town so you can watch the little rodents, and right across the street is the elk viewing area. Medicine park is fun as well.

Oh well, back to the reason I responded. If necessary, I would also be willing to boondock at LCR if needed. (I only have a 12v light in my pop-up and no air conditioner yet.)

We are getting in early enough that we can have all the hookups at the campground, and I could only hope that we get more than ten campers.

Oh, BTW, I will be buying a portal gift item (or two) to give to the camper that travels the greatest distance to the Oklahoma Rally!

Okay, if you guys have camped Oklahoma, then hopefully you can help me.
Our YGuides group is taking a trip into Oklahoma June 7th to visit the Indian City USA in Anadarko. We will be camping in the campgrounds.
Has any ever stayed at the Indian City USA campgrounds?
We will have 2 pop ups and about 5 or 6 tents.

Does Last Chance take Reservations this early? I'd hate to upset the family and not have the hook ups. Let the whining begin...lol! I can't wait to do some more Oklahoma Rallies.. with the price of gas I am not sure how many out of state rallies I could try to talk hubby into saving for. I can do more camping the closer I keep it to home.. Or atleast within a 5 hour drive..lol! Oklahoma has a lot I have never seen. We just started camping on our own as a family last year. We use to be "tag along" campers. Now we have broke free and graduated to camping alone as if we thought we wouldn't get along alone in the outdoors...lol! We want to get use out of our new camper as much as we can! Looking forward to meeting you all.

Yes we can take reservations. We just need to make sure of the date. If everyone is sure of the dates I will contact Ann and reserve spots with hook ups. If by some chance someone needs cancel that is no problem, just try to let us know as soon as possible so we can open it up to other campers.

Since I have been running the website we have only booked all 10 sites one weekend and that was last year during spring break. It would be real nice to have all 10 sites filled with PUP people!!!

Well it looks like the Last Chance for the *OKIE PUC's*!!!!!

The dumping stations are up by the main house, generally KC (one of the ranch hands) will help you out with dumping your black water. Your grey water can be cantained and dumped on the other side of the road (you'll see what I mean when you get there!). There is a link to the website that might give you a better idea of what your looking at down at the bottom of this post. If you have anymore questions about LCR fire away. I've been with them since they opened up and camped there before they went public. I'm seriously considering retiring there.

I have camped at Roman Nose and I was considering going there this weekend. Now, it has been a few years but the last time I was at Roman Nose there were no full hookups and the shade trees were limited were there were electrical hookups. During the summer months they have a riding stable, a swimming pool, and of course a golf course.

Red Rock Canyon is a neat little place down in the bottom of well a canyon. I have visited there but I do not know about the facilities. Does have a small creek running through the campgrounds and as I recall a lot of trees. Nice place that I plan on camping in sometime this year.
