We are camping at 4 Mile Creek SP over Columbus Day weekend. It's on lake Onterio near the mouth of the Niagara river and only 15 miles from the falls. I have never been there but have read that it is a nice CG. I will post after we return with a report.

That would be great, I never hear of NYers getting together. Even if it's small to start. Think it would be fun.

Four Mile Creek is a great campground. We spent 3 nights there last year in July. It is a great campground. The sites are a good size and you have partial hookups, elec. and water and a dump station nearby. They have restrooms/showers and laundry facilities. The main road will take you to the falls on a back road so you are not in all the traffic. Your park pass will also get you free parking at 5 local state parks including the falls.

If you are going to go over to the Canadian side make sure you have your and children's passports with you. We also had our dog and had all her records with recent shots with us.

    Hope this helps.

Thats 40 minutes away from my house. I will have to get there...

Oh BTW do we not have perfect summers here? People say Buffalo is so cold but spend one summer here at a perfect 80 degrees and add fresh water on all sides and its so worth the harsh winters.

When we were at Golden Hill SP in July we ran the AC every day. It was in the 90's every day. Normally it would be in the 80's. The bathroom at Golden Hill had A/C.

We stayed in Four-Mile Creek State Park in July this year. Terrific campground! They offered a chance for us to change our site even before we saw it - suggested that it might be too sunny! They have laundry facilities and a general store.
We got free parking at Niagara Falls and also Fort Niagara (highly recommended and you can use their pool if you have your state park pass) If you go to Niagara Falls, buy the combo that allows you to do all the activities. If you can only afford one, do the Maid of the Mist. When you get off, you can walk right up to the Falls almost like the Cave of the Winds. Hint... keep the poncho, it does rain in NY sometimes!!! If you do at least three of the activities, the combo is worth it.ALSO!!! go right past the tourist hoopla and go straight to Goat Island where the state park parking is. There is also a convenience store outside the park that has some museum stuff about people that went over the falls. It is worth a few minutes of your time. They also have cheaper souvenirs than the state park. It is called the Daredevil Museum.
    We had a great time!!!

Oh know...you guys missed one the best things to do. Jet boating up the rapids in devils hole.

I had to view your profiles just to make sure you guys were not from NY. You must have crammed a lot in a short amount of time...

I use to go there all the time. I need to revisit my own backyard sometime.

We did do a lot in two days (three nights of camping). We have three kids, and a tight budget. We were on our way to New Hampshire for a wedding as well, and spent four nights camping in Massachusetts to visit Plymouth and Boston! I had to come home because I ran out of money!

I would be interested in a NY gathering!!!!!!! I have been to Golden Hills this summer. Nice. Have heard great things also about 4 Mile Creek. I am thinking about going to Jellystone Columbus weekend, or the next as they have Halloween activities for the kids and campers. My friends have been there and love it. It is in Java which is near Darien Lake amusement park and RV/camping park. This is ~45 to 60 minutes from Buffalo/NF. There is also Letchworth and Allegheny SP's which are ~60-min from Buffalo/NF. Plus Watkins Glen SP close to Corning, NY ~hrs (?) from Buffalo/NF. I have been tent camping at all of them for numerous years and they are spectacular!!!! They are beautiful. These SP's have natural "canyons" and areas to walk and/or hike plus swim/boat/fish areas. Can take guided nature tours, presentations on star gazing, local wildlife, etc. Nice bathroom/shower facilities, generally.

OK, I will stop now :)

Hmmm. I'm just over the river in Niagara Falls, Canada. Never been to any state parks. I might have to just venture over if one is happening.

There is also LOTS to do on this side as well.

I havent been to 4 Mile Creek either, we should set something up for there. Get a 2009 get together to allow for dates and vacation time. I know I have a buddy that would go also with his pop up.

My family and I would come to WNY gathering. Has anyone ever stayed at Wildwood Campground? We go every year. Nice creek for the kids and a nice stocked pond for fishing/canoeing. Good ppl there.

Very nice people too. I bet I could get a group rate if we get enough. Either one is good for me...

A western NY rally next year sounds great! Lets get something going, so we can plan and get ressies as soon as they are available. We've never camped in that part of the state, so will rely on the experts to choose the park.

Well what do we want to do, 4 Mile CG is on the table for sure anyone else have a place? Get a pole going if we can get a few. The hardest part is choosing a CG. Lets get that nailed down.. If we choose it they will come ha ha
