It is many miles away from the Ortega. There are other CG's right off the highway though.

Ok maybe not many, but the narrow curvy road and mountains makes it seem like it...

Sorry we'll miss this one! That Saturday is our graduation from an 8-week CERT (Community Emergency Response Training). We will participate in a simulated emergency situation, complete with "victims" and rescue personnel at the local fire station. We're learning some good stuff for sure!

    nancyanddan!

that's good! I got certified in Birmingham, AL in 2005 and led a group here in CA twice in 2014 and 2015. Its fun going to CERT Refresher Course to keep up with new ideas..

In Alabama CERT emphasized on tornado, hurricanes, flooding, and fire (not wildfire) and terrorism. Here in CA, CERT emphasized on earthquake, wildfire, flood and terrorism.

Blue Jay is calling for rain and near freezing temps that weekend.

We are likely going to move the Rally to Blair Valley in the Anza Borrego Desert!!

The official decision will be posted on Tuesday!!!

3 people, at least, are in for the Move to Blair Valley!!

Paul and Pam will get in Thursday, so look for them. Likely enter at Blair Valley at the pit toilets and follow the road around until you spot them!!

Met up with Patrick and Ryan. Weather was great low 50s at night and mid 70s during the day. Not many weekend campers, very quiet and scenic. The desert was GREEN! We were so comfortable that we spent 5 nights.
Blair Valley is "primitive camping" however there are (clean) vault toilets at the entrance and there are conventional campgrounds, convenience stores and essential provisions within 10 miles.
We picked up a local favorite, Julian Apple Pie (in Julian). Someone please school me, what's' the appeal of this pie?
Over all a good trip and great company.

The appeal is that it is one of the best marketed pies around. Other than that, it tastes like every other apple pie I've ever had.

It was a good trip!! That chicken was amazing!!!

As for the apple pie it is a novelty type thing... You can get them from most stores here in IB anyway... No where near as good as my grandmothers apple pies.
