I would just like to point out that site #37, that says "tent only," will will accommodate a large pop up and is allowed. It's a nice, private site that we camp on often. It is only designated at a tent site due to a low hanging tree. It has the same electrical hook-ups and water as all the RV sites.

We would have reserved it this time, except that I may be recovering from a total knee replacement, so so reserved a paved HA site, right across from the ramp to the AMAZING bath house. The bath houses at Fort Clinch are very nice, modern, clean, and air conditioned. Nicest I have seen outside of Disney World's campground.

Just a bit of current info about Fort Clinch, as we just got back from spending the week there:

The ranger station no longer sells firewood. They have a new concessionaire running the Fort/gift shop that has it in their contract that the park cannot sell it. It is sold at the gift shop, but is $7 per bundle!! The local Flash stations sell it for $5 bundle that includes a "starter."

However, no place on the island had firewood while we were there. The prices are there, but the wood was not. The first night we were there, it was was raining. The next day, we ran all over the place trying to score some wood, unsuccessfully. As we sat at our site, a firewood angel/fellow camper who was leaving, pulled up with a truckload of firewood that he GAVE US! It was a good two weeks worth of wood.

Knowing that firewood was not to be had, and only a couple of people had fires, he drove around and chose us because we had the grandchildren. He saw the boys, who were the only kids there since it was a school week, and told us that kids should have a campfire so we got the wood. We left about a weeks worth at our site when we packed up, pulled the camper down to the river to fish before we left, and wood had disappeared when we drove back by.

The new concessionaire charges a fee to use your debit or credit card. They said it was $1.50, but just now looking at my bank statement, I noticed they charged me $3 once. Either way, I would have cash ready if you plan on paying for Fort entrance or buying anything at the store.

 

OK, I have just reserved site 37 for the 14/15. It will be a little dicey for me since it's "finals week," and my final grades are due Monday, but I do believe I can make it. I see 37 was Orchid's old favorite site-- was concerned about the big tree in photos, but my pup should fit!
Site 50 is still available that weekend-- for whoever wants it.
Did I just make this the official Rally? Am I the one more you needed?

 

@JunieB , so glad you are joining us! Here are a few photos of us camping on site #37 last month. As you can see, we back in so our rear bunk is hanging over the back fence a bit. That way the big tree is not right over top your front bunk. Our rear bunk is full and our front bunk is king.

It's a roomy site. In front of the fire pit, there is a picnic table and plenty of space to spread out.

 

I am HOPING to come for both my Res dates, but worst come to worst, I will come for the Saturday night at least. LOVED Orchid's photos. She is a good backer-upper, I will try to do the same. I have teeny Taos and all that thing wants to do is turn on a back-in. At ANY rate I can almost push it around myself once I un-hook. I think the Taos is a Full front Queen back. Mine is modified, no kitchen. Prior owner removed kitchen cabinet, put in a shower area. Long story. Makes it more of an "ultralight" trailer I guess!

 

For the record we're arriving the 12 and leaving the afternoon of 15th.

 

Thanks, but I can't take credit for the backing. I can't back at all. DH does that for us. I literally tore off the back quarter panel of our van trying to back. Thankfully, it just snapped right back on.

We will be there 13th - 17th.

Aw man! We just read about this rally and would love to join the fun. There are no more sites left, but we'll keep our eyes open for any cancellations. On the plus side, we live on Amelia Island - if all else fails, can we crash the potluck? We may also luck out on a walk-in site as well.

 

Wow, I want to be you! Amelia Island is my favorite spot on earth, and I have been a lot of places! It's my dream to live there!

I'm not the Wagon Master, but I'm sure it would be great for you to come to the potluck. @SHFL

 

Thanks Orchid! We lived in the chaos of Atlanta for over 20 years (our PUP was our weekend getaway vehicle) and things just fell in line for us to live and work on Amelia Island after dreaming about it for years. We are ridiculously blessed to live in this wonderful place. Now that we're here, it's nearly impossible to find open camping spots close by, but it's a worthwhile tradeoff! Looking forward to meeting some fellow popup campers!
