I was a forum admin for a large online forum for a couple of years and it is a thankless, full-time job. 90% of your users are great, but the other 10% will keep you on your toes cleaning up messes, editing posts and removing other post. Good moderators can help a lot here.

Then there is general forum maintenance like daily/weekly backups, pruning older threads, checking for users with multiple accounts, working with your ISP and keeping your forum software updated to make sure you're protected against all the latest vulnerabilities.

Then you have to test all the upgrades before you implement them to make sure they don't break anything, which means you have two forums; a production forum and a development/staging forum to test with, but the alternative is no fun. One time we let our forum software get a couple versions out of date and we got hit by an account creation and SPAM bot and what a mess.

From the user's side everything looks simple and straight forward, but make no mistake about it... there is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure everything continues to run smoothly and professionally.

There should be forum admin appreciation day

This is the first I've seen this thread and it's pretty darn funny. Especially since I'm on the phone with Steve daily, getting together with him every week or two and most of the time that doesn't include the hours every day working on things.

Steve, Carl, Lou, Joe and Phil work very hard to keep this an information, entertaining and family oriented forum web site. Thanks Guys!

All you need is a cat or two walking on the keyboards in the background and it would be right on the money. [LOL]

Bumping this sticky to current because that is so stinking funny (sorry Steve, I know it's difficult and I thank you for all you do).

Thank you guys for all you do to keep this site running. I just donated. I have learned so much and met so many kind, caring, sharing people. I adore this site...much to my dh's chagrin. But I now know more about PUPS than he does (though we had them growing up so daddy helps me too, especially with the jayco).

WOW! Almost ten years ago but still true. Made a little easier now with mobile devices to allow me to keep tabs on things from anywhere.

But PUP Members are the BEST!
