Seems like is getting a little FUBAR in here. Grab the DW, the DO and hit the FCFS CG for a night in the PUP. [LOL]

I'm working on a list of the common acronyms used on the portal. Give me a few days to get it in order please! It will be a sticky and locked. Just PM me with any I've missed, and I'm sure there will be some, and I'll add them in. [A]

Once you get it together then I'll probably print a copy so I don't have to dig for the sticky link. Thanks for putting it together.

What helped me the most in understanding acronyms is my son and daughter(notice I wrote that out) they basically forced me to text message them all the time a few years ago in order for me to communicate with them. They would never answer the phone when I called. LMAO :)

Where did the whole DS/DD/DW/DH/etc thing start? I've seen it on many discussion groups... do people really use "dear son" et al in real life? Or is this just a weird internet thing that caught on?

Acronyms have been around & grown dramatically in number since the early 90s, and before. When I worked on mainframes in the 80s, there were already a massive amt of them being used. Any keystroke saved was time saved! In reality, they aren't going anywhere, and folks come up with new ones all the time! Thus, the list I'm working on. I'm trying to glean everything I can from previous posts, but I'm sure I'll be adding to it for awhile. It's coming soon, so please bear with us!!

    Thanks!!

Not sure, but it really annoys me. Its just a pet peeve. Can you really not take the time to write son, husband, daughter or wife?

It seems to be much more of a thing in family friendly places, and I first started noticing it when my wife was pregnant and we were reading sites like What to Expect and a couple web forums for new parents.

It seemed to start as a cutesy "teehee, what a fun abbreviation thing!" and then caught on and now everyone uses it.

You'll noticed I very rarely if ever say "Pup" either. Its popup. Are 2 extra letters going to kill you? They are literally right next to each other on the keyboard. You don't even have to move your fingers.

I've been thrown off a couple sub-forums on reddit for making fun of fellow dads for using the "Dear Wife" thing. She's not your dear wife, and you know it. She's your pain in the butt wife, just like all of our wives. I actually like you guys, so I try not to do that here. [;)]

LMAO I don't usually mean 'dear' when I type DH either! LOL

But yeah. It's the whole save .000007 of a second to get done faster. I admit, after being tech with the feds, you have to use acronyms. It just carries over for me.
