We've struggled this summer with bike transport. Second hitch on the TV didn't work (my 28 year old Viking doesn't have a lot of tongue length), then I ignored all the conventional wisdom about hitches on the back bumper. Had to strap my bike rack upright and still dealt with horrible sway problems (making matters worse, my TV is an 1989 Wrangler so it's not the tightest drive anyway). Read the other custom roof rack thread and really liked the design, but only 1 of our bikes has a front wheel quick disconnect. So I decided to ignore more conventional wisdom and make something out of PVC, with a 2x4 base. This is what I came up with (similar but not identical to others I found on Google). It's on its maiden voyage right now and so far, so good!
