Many of you have heard and maybe seen the Union Pacific 4014 "Big Boy" locomotive that's wrapping up a tour of the Southwest U.S. in a few days. 4014, which was in service from 1941 to 1961, was restored by the UP for the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. It arrived in Kansas City on Sunday and has been working its way west this week en route back to its home base in Cheyenne, WY.

Anyway, today a photographer for the Hays (KS) Daily News got some cool photos of Big Boy arriving in town during a snow event.

I was able to see it when it came through Chicago. It’s so cool that they were able to do this restoration!

I missed it when it came through Chicago :( And I still haven't made it up to IRM (Illinois Railway Museum) lately, but I hear they have a couple steam engines running now.

Wow, always neat to see steam used today. I collect HO scale trains. Currently just displaying rolling stock from my childhood (Tyco and Marklin). Someday I'll have a layout when the kids leave the nest!

Wow. That is an incredible layout! I wish I had room for Lionel, I usually just set mine up around the tree for Christmas every year and buy some new pieces of track or something after every Christmas to add for the next year. We’re planning on moving in a couple years and I’m hoping to have a room to set up n scale.

Yes you have another train buff here. I live in Michigan and have watched the restoration of the Pere Marquette 1225 from when it was stored at Michigan State University till completion at the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso Michigan. The Pere Marquette 1225 is sixteen feet tall, 101 feet long with a combined engine and tender weight of 440 tons, while producing an impressive 5000 tractive horsepower. It’s renowned for its role in the 2004 Warner Brothers Christmas Classic, The Polar Express. Every year it makes several runs from its home to Ashley MI wowing the heats of young and old as the Polar Express Christmas Train.

Screenshot_20200623-210018_Pinterest.jpg Love trains! My paternal grandfather was an engineer for the UP here in Nebraska. He ran from North Platte to Grand Island or Hastings usually. I remember going to the roundhouse in North Platte as a young girl. Back before they built the hump yard (Bailey Yard). I have seen Big Boy as it came through Kearney Nebraska. Amazing feeling as it passes by.

Wow! That's cool. I have been collecting but never have had enough space to build a layout. Maybe I will in about a year an a half...when I retire:p
