Here is another trick i use. Usually reserve america notifications come out at 5.30 am EST and by the time i check my email. Long gone.
So i added a rule in my email to forward this to my cell phone . In my case verizon is [email protected]. so i get a txt msg which i will check when i look at my phone around 6.30 or earlier. All cell phone carriers have a free email to txt number.

Yes. You can setup notification email on reserve America. They run a job middle of night that sends out notification. Then I setup forward to phone so I get a text.

I did notice this year that Reserve America's site changed dramatically, and for the first time in 4 years, we had no problems reserving sites 6 months in advance. Campgrounds we saw 100% sold out 2 minutes after opening last year, were 50% reserved 2 hours after opening this year.

Don't know if it will be a lasting change, just the ever present escalation in the arms race between the Bots and the site owners.

I was watching the RV Odd Couple this evening on YouTube (07-Feb-2021 "No Campsites Left..."). They mentioned a site called Campnab.com.* This site's blog also had an interesting article entitled: Are Bots Ruining Camping at Popular Parks?** It's a summary of the bot history/problem and their answer is basically: Reservation sites have successfully blunted bot abilities; and, the demand for campsites overwhelms supply.

Campnab is a service that scans reservation websites for openings and then texts you a notification. The site is very clear as to not crossing the line of making reservations on your behalf. They appear interested in being part of the solution and not part of the problem.

So far, I'm favorably inclined to sign up, but I wonder if others on this site would have a different take on their business model?

we are pretty much screwed - WWW give too many people immediate access from anywhere on the planet. I and glad and privileged to have had access in the past to some of our great parks.

As much as I miss the days of just showing up, paying for a couple of nights, and extending my stay if I feel like it... this is a decent way to help find a spot freed up by those people who poach all the good sites the second they open

Reserve America is not user friendly at all.

What's hard about it? I've never had any problem with Reserve America. Recreation.gov had some initial hiccups after the redesign a couple years, but they seem to have most of the bugs worked out now.

I believe it was two years ago now, Wisconsin switched to using Camis (I think that’s what it’s called)... it’s a little nicer to use, but we’re all playing the same game trying to reserve a site between 9:00 and 9:01, 11 months in advance.

If you clicked at exactly that moment and received a site and I clicked a fraction of a second after you and did not, should I assume you used an unethical device?

It seems reasonable to me that a couple thousands devices were open and ready to go.

I like to have all my dates locked in and sites #s picked and credit card ready.
I got on at midnight of the first chance to reserve.
The thing I don't like about Reserve America is if you need multiple sites for a group
it won't let you check out them all at once.
You have to book and pay for each one individually.
It makes you nervous while your booking one site that somebody else might jump
in and book one of your other sites while you are booking one site at a time.
It's only a issue if you need multiple sites for a group outing.
They could streamline it more by getting rid of all the questions like....
    How many pets you have
    Number of Occupants
    Type of camper
    Length of camper
    Number of vehicles.
All of which you have repeat for every site you book.
If you need 2-3 or 4 sites together it would be nice if you put them in your cart
and could check out/book them all at once vs having to repeat the same process
over and over for each site.

This was one of the main improvements with the Camis website.... it notifies that its a double site and you must book both.... I hated that with RA!
Edit: YES, I am TRYING to book a DOUBLE site!
