DW likes the idea, too. If we want to make this a bit more informal rally at Carr Lake Trailhead campground, I'll see if she wants to go ahead and ask for that Friday off work, or if we want to just try and make it a short work day and leave Tucson around noon.

I hit Aspen @ Woods Canyon last weekend and I'll be there again this Sun-Tuesday if someone wants to drop by and say hi. If we're at camp, we'll be sitting outside somewhere so feel free to wander in and introduce yourself. Name's Tony. Here's my rig:

That looks like a nice place too, I've been wanting to check it out. Did you like it?
    Could be a good alternative.

With just a little over a week, we should settle on a location and see who all is interested in showing up. Since I have little to no experience with any of the campgrounds we're discussing, I'm quite happy to defer to those who have spent some time in them.

Freenaz I have been there twice with the boys and had a great time. Very peaceful place. We chose to go to the third site since the other 2 seemed to crowded for my liking.

Since I've never been I'm ok with going there.
Is there enough water for fishing this time of year?

    The 3rd site?
Do you have coordinates to the spot?

We had reserved a spot at Canyon point CG (just up the road) about 6 months ago for that weekend. So we will be in the area as well. I *think* that we have #19 in the A loop. But we like the Aspen CG a lot as well. This will probably be our last trip with hookups for a while. We really enjoyed the boondocking at the rally. We tried Fools Hollow and it was sad how far down the lake is, plus it was extremely windy and hot!!

Here are directions: From Payson travel 33 miles east on S.R. 260 to F.R. 512 (Young Road). Turn right then travel 2.5 miles south at F.R. 33 turn left (Colcord Ridge Campground) and continue another 6 miles on a windy road to the campground on your right.

    This Cord should put you in the area: 34° 17' 19.23"N, 110° 48' 10.11"W

We went to the third area where privacy was more. Fishing all depends on the run-off from the storms.

We'll be leaving Tucson between 12:30 and 1:00 p.m. on Friday the 10th. Does that campground tend to fill up on the weekends, Geardo?

Is there any online reservation system for this one, or is it strictly "first come, first served"?

One more thing to look forward to on the weekend of August 10th - 12th: meteor shower!

    http://stardate.org/nightsky/meteors

The annual Perseids shower will peak Saturday night/Sunday morning, and the moon won't rise until around 3 hours before sunrise.

Well I say we go to Upper Canyon Creek area if you guys want.
I'm planning on going up Wed evening Thursday morning so I can hold a couple spots.

Haven't heard from anyone else on so I guess its just Geardo, Hoomi and myself.
Others are free to join in obviously.

We've decided a 5 hr trip to Payson is not out of the question. Would like to camp somewhere we haven't been. Has a location been decided on yet?

USKustoms I believe we are going to Upper Canyon Creek.

Yes those are the coordinates and directions per Geardo and Google.

Both times I spend camping with the boys there was plenty of room. No reservation just first come first serve.

Okay, we're in. Looks like our son and his girlfriend may be coming along, though they'll be in their own tent.

Shuang, this is next weekend, August 10th - 12th (or a little longer, for those that have arranged more time off). We're going up Friday afternoon, and coming home on Sunday.

Ok thx. Looks like a nice place. I understand it can get busy on the weekends. Might I have trouble finding a spot if we arrive Fri. aft.?
