Just got back from a three day camp. A great park. 62 mixed sites each with water and 30 amp power. Great rest rooms with showers, absolutley immacculate. Even had sink/dishwash area with hot/cold water on backsides of rest room buildings.

Cavern tour was spectacular. Used as a base camp for site seeing in Bisbee and Tombstone.

I stayed there in Spring 2011. Yes, this park is top rated. Very spacious and clean. There are good hiking trail around the park. The town of Tombstone is not very far away. For 3-4 days, we have a blast.

The trees are tall now, so most of the sites should be shaded from Spring to Winter. Summer could be a little hot, but you can plug in your AC.

We took the P'up down there this past weekend, and had a wonderful time. It's still basically "off-season" here in Southern Arizona, so the campground had maybe a half-dozen spaces filled at the most, making for a very quiet, peaceful weekend. The bathrooms are still clean and well-maintained, and the grounds in nice shape. We were greeted by the camp host within a few minutes of pulling in, and he took care of our reservation right there on the spot. He checked back with us a bit later to make sure everything was okay, and stopped by to say hello both mornings.

The park has hiking trails, and we enjoyed pedaling our recumbent trikes around. The cavern tour is awe-inspiring, and well-worth the price of admission. We plan to go back in the fall after the Big Room Tour reopens, but the Rotunda/Throne Room Tour is certainly nothing to sneeze at, either.

I will echo the reviews that this is a wonderful park. Very new and clean facilities. Nice high desert setting good for Fall/Winter/Spring camping. The cavern tours, while expensive, are spectacular. In reasonable proximity to Tombstone/Bisbee and the Sonoita/Patagonia wine region.

We visited in Feb 2006 on a weekend that a winter storm was passing thru. The campground was maybe 20% occupied. We discovered a nice feature - in addition to Men's and Women's facilities, they have a "Family" shower room that the wife and I used, strictly in the interest in saving water of course (conservationists, we are!) We went back down to Kartchner Caverns State Park the weekend of March 13th - 15th. Since someone asked for photos, here are some that I took that weekend.

One reason for the trip - Star Party Night. My telescopes are the two on the left.

We also stayed there a few years ago, either 2009 or 2010. Very nice facilities there. I remember it being a good visit. We also did the cavern tour and spent a day in Tombstone. Lots of fun for the family.

My only knock is that there is not much cover between sites. It looks like the mesquite/palo verde trees are not filling in very quickly.

Yep. 8" and 10" f4.5. I need to do a little refurb work on the mounts, as the nylon pads used for the bearing surfaces are dried out and cracking, but the scopes are still usable. I picked both of them up directly from Coulter Optical in Idyllwild, California, when the company was still in business.

Temperatures at Kartchner that weekend were, IIRC, around the mid-70s during the day, and mid 50s at night. I was comfortable doing my hike in lightweight Columbia hiking pants and a lightweight sun-protective shirt. In the evenings, I wore a light windbreaker style jacket. The campground is around 4600' of altitude, and so tends to run a bit cooler than Tucson.

Funny! We were at Madera Canyon the weekend of Mar 13-15. Stayed in one of the Santa Rita cabins. It was crazy windy that weekend! Beautiful area, our first visit.

Did you camp there? We took a quick look at the Bog Springs campground. Seemed nice but only a few sites that would hold a camper.

BTW you can google "Kartchner Caverns weather" and find the temps and forecast. The park is at 4700' so should be a little cooler than Green Valley at 2900'. But for sure we have had some unseasonably warm weather last month. I'm not ready for summer!

IIRC, the State Park webpage will give current weather conditions, too.

We stayed here over Thanksgiving. They continue to improve the campground. While we had not been to it before, the friends we met up with have stayed a few times. Our friends had site 46 and we had 47, both on the outside of the loop. All sites have power and water; no sewer, there is a dump station.
There is now a fire ring in every site, for those so inclined. We have a propane one, so weren't restricted to the placement of the site ring.
They have added tent pads to the sites. Ours was next to the parking pad, and made a great seating area. the one in site 46 was behind the parking area. We think that's due to the trail access being on the side of 46. There was a good flat ware near the picnic table to use as a seating area, though.
We took one of the cave tours on Thanksgiving, and will go back someday for the other tour. The location is close enough to Sierra Vista to head there for supplies. We had a flat on the TV and found a Discount Tire to get a pair of new tires. We also drove to the San Pedro Riparian area, so Kartchner made a good base for the area.
Also new are 4 cabins, so new they did not seem in use yet.

We visited Kartchner Caverns SP in November 2017. It was our first trip there. The park and campground are really well done. We did the Throne room/Rotunda room tour, hiked the foothills trails and visited Tombstone and Bisbee. The cave tour, which we booked ahead on the AZ state parks website, was excellent. Bisbee was really cool too. We hit it on a night that there was a gallery walk so all the art galleries were open late, there was live music everywhere, and the peoples were out roaming around. It was fun. See below for a video campground review. At the end we have a "sneak peek" of the whole CG - a fast forward view of the whole place so you can get a good feel for what it's like overall. It's 2 thumbs up from us!

    Nice video.

Glad you enjoyed your stay in AZ. We did the same Kartchner tour & campground last year. I have found that AZ State managed campgrounds to be clean, hosted with great customer service, bathrooms with showers, plus sites with water and electrical hookups.

    Happy Camping...[ALPU][PUT]

Us too. Grand Canyon was really well done (Mather CG) and we quite enjoyed Kartchner as well.
    See ya on the road>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
