Boondocking in Pennsylvania

    I've camped on a few of those sites years ago. Although that map is a great tool it does not tell the entire story. A lot of the sites you would need 4WD and super high ground clearance to get any type of trailer into the site if it accommodates a trailer, in the first place, a good number of them do not. The PADCNR maintenance program as far as access roads go sucks.

    Another thing is trying to secure a permit to use those sites is an exercise in frustration and gubmint bureaucracy/red tape. Getting dates on the date you want them is next to impossible.

    I research most of the areas before even attempting to pull the camper around. Obtaining a permit hasn't been an issue for myself. I often find that some areas get trashed from previous campers. I've camped in Weiser State Forest and Tuscarora State Forest.
