I'm always looking for new places to camp and other PUP members who maybe there.

What do you think about a camping calendar, maybe broken down by state? Where members can click on a day/dates and put their user name and campground where they will be staying.

Example -
State: PA
Date: Oct 17,18,19
User: joentwkguy
Campground: French Creek State Park
Site: Site C15 (optional)

Would you consider adding or searching this feature for camping ideas?

We have a calendar for Rallies/Group Campouts - click on the 'Events' link at the top of the page. We've felt it would become overwhelming with individuals entering their trips, so it has been limited to group campouts/Rallies of more than 8 members. When the date has been set, and the number of attendees reached, I have requested that folks PM me with their rally info, and I'll add it to the Calendar.

Having a specific area for individuals is an interesting possiblity, but again, I'm afraid it would be a bit overwhelming. Your thoughts, Steve?

I agree with Digger. I think that would be way too much. Most people post something and you can always add something to the events calendar. They come up as separate entries so you can look at them that way.

I think you have a good idea, however at the same time, for privacy reasons, some folks wouldn't want to post when and where they'll be at any particular place, sometimes due to kids, sometimes just for piece of mind, know what I mean? My <img src=../Images/icons/icon_smile_twocents.gif border=0 align=middle alt="My 2 Cents">, I think its a good idea though...

I do have to agree with Digger that it could also potentially get cluttered and confusing. I wish there was a way, it'd be cool to see who's where and when!

Carl,

I have to be honest and say I never looked at the events calendar before. It's a great feature but if I was interested in camping a weekend in November, there aren't any group of 8 or more families camping together but Suzanne, Kevin or Bill maybe camping on different weekends and I could send them a PM and meet them.

Kevin, I understand the privacy, but you decide how much information you offer in your profile (Name, Age, City, etc), you decide to add a weekend trip to the calendar and you could even leave the site optional.

It would be a lot of work and would take some time for the design not to be confusing but I camp about every 3 weeks for 10+ months of the year and would camp with others if available.

I posted a forum a few months ago for who's camping in July and August to get this same information. It was good reading, but much more then expected.

I think if it were do-able for each region, it'd be an awesome idea, good point on each person entering how much (or little) info they want...

Something to consider, although I'm sure it'd be an undertaking!

What about a free service like http://www.calendars.net/ or something like it. You can even say as a forum master you need "X" amount of posts to be added to calender to allow scheduling so you don't add people that just want to see it. Keep it all with in the pup people and because it is not your server let them have at it. For regions we can come up with a legend type thing so a 3 letter code in front of the state can mean something..Then some little rules like sign on names only on the calender and things like that.
Just trying to get this to work.

I get enough exercise just pushing my luck.

At one time the event calendar was setup to do what you are suggesting but it just got to messy and hard to read. Also, as someone else had said, it can be a privacy issue. If someone wants to post their trip plans, then they can do so in the "Let me tell you about my trip" forum.
