Does anyone have recommendations for camping near Six Flags Great America? We are going to be in the area on a road trip and wondered whether to camp or stay in a hotel near by. Also, anyone visited there in mid-July? Were not sure if a one day stop would be worth it with the long lines, but we have a 10 year old who loves roller coasters. Any reviews would be helpful.

Hotel would probably be a better bet, there isn't a ton of camping in the area, and by now all the cg's are full up on ressies. One day at the park should do it, but there is also a water park on the property. Of note, one of the largest Bass Pro Shops you'll ever see is just across the Tollway from the parks, along with a large outlet mall.

About twenty miles away west of Kenosha, is Richard Bong State Rec. Area in Wisconsin. Max a thirty minute drive.

Nice park, and weekday reservations would probably still be available. Lot cheaper than a hotel. There is also Illinois Beach State Park, but I've never stayed there.

Haven't been to Great America in years, but they have added many coasters. I think you can do a Great America/Water Park combo.

    Hope that helped.

    Cheers, JC

Bong is also probably full on weekends. There are several hotels in the area offering specials in conjunction with Great America. Eric what's the one with the waterpark? Something Cove?

You could look into fish lake park in volo
Water park is an extra $10
You could buy a flash pass if you only have 1 day

Illinois Beach State Park, you will need reservations.

Visited Marriott's Great America on July 20-22, 1976; does that count?
