Camping with a gas shortage?

Just curious if the east coast gas shortage (hording really) is going to ruin people's plans for this weekend. Hope they have fixed by the end of the week like they say, but glad we went last weekend cause surely wouldn't be going this weekend if I wasn't certain there was gas where I needed it. Darn TT is murder on the MPG.

It has certainly altered my plans but hasn't ruined those. Since we already had a family member offering of a room at my destination and it's only a couple nights, we decided to leave the trailer at home. This has a lot more to do with the bigassvan's MPG's overall rather than a difference between the PUp and the TT. The little sedan gets mid-30's MPG compared to the van's 15 MPG. Soooo... we're using the sedan. I really would prefer to take the trail, either trailer, but this time economy has won out.

I am supposed to leave on a 350 mile one way trip Monday going through 3 of the affected states. My truck will go over 400 miles on a tank while towing. Not sure if we are going to cancel or not. I would hate to get there and have trouble getting home.

Never again! Many many years back I went camping in NC when a hurricane was on track to blow through. I figured I was in the mountains of NC so shouldn't have any problems. Well, I was wrong. Hardly had any wind, but apparently everyone rushed out to get gas even as far inland as I was, there was hardly any gas anywhere. Drove to four stations and all were out. Talked to a station owner to see if they knew if any stations with gas and he pointed me to one several miles away. My low gas light was on and had no clue I would make it. Sputtered to the gas station and the car died right at the pump. Cash only, but had $10 in my wallet. That at least got me to the interstate and to another gas station. That was darn scary being out in the middle of nowhere praying I wouldn't get stranded. Hearing the unmistakable sound that I was on fumes. I don't advice going anywhere especially towing if you can help it. I need to drive home to get my Covid shot but I may not have enough gas to get there. Times like now I wish I still had my sedan.

Bope it gets fixed by friday like they say. But right now its not good. 2 states, last i looked were out at a ton of places and limits on how much you can get if you find a station with gas. Be careful.

They are/were saying 60-70% of the stations in Wilmington were out of gas. The irony is that we don’t even get our gas from the pipeline as ours comes in by tanker to the port. They’ve already rerouted traffic away from the port's tank farm because of all tanker trucks in line to load up block the road. There was a tanker (the boat kind) parked along side on my way home from work today so I know they’ve got fuel.

As to jmkay’s issue: In this town especially when a hurricane is near people go crazy about getting fuel. Like people with a whole pickup bed full of gas cans pull up and they insist on filling them all so anytime within a week of a possible landfall there is a possibility of gas shortages in town. Presumably to run their generators. From what the local paper was saying it was the same thing yesterday. People pulling in and filling multiple containers instead of just filling up their tank.

Just a heads up for everyone. All those big tanks yards were empty and the gas station tanks are empty. Once they start refilling the tanks, a lot of trash and water is stirred up. It'll take a day or two to settle out. Filters do not take it all out. If I saw a tanker refilling tanks at a station, I passed.

Several stations in our area are out; ones that have fuel, the lines are out the yang & some are filling up 2 & 5 gallon cans, saw 1 dude on the news w/ 6 gas cans waiting to be filled after he filled his truck...nations' new motto, "America runs on fear"...filled up the trucks/wife's car/mower cans last week as I do every couple of weeks, kicking back watching the circus, hoping we don't have to go odd/even tag numbers like we did in the early 70s...

Been Paying $2.69 on average, think it may be up around $3 here locally; yesterday bout 10% of the stations were out, this morning the news said at least 50% of 'em have no gas...one jackass showed up w/ two empty 50 gallon drums in the back of his truck, not sure if he filled 'em or not, & how the hay would you get em off the truck. I'll never understand the mindset of those that live in fear & panic, acting like fools at the 1st hint of an inconvenience. Rural area EMTs & voluntary firemen don't have fuel set ups, so if they can't get to their stations, up in smoke...would love to see mandatory "common sense" classes for adults, & add simple life skill courses for school age kids; Lord help us if we ever have a serious national crisis...
***For those that enjoy hand to hand combat, here's a clip that showed a lady trying to cut in line at a gas station & the ensuing confrontation...

. Thais is so true. Sure hope those lack of common since people don’t have a fire. A good chunk of fire stations are volunteers only. Thankfully my office is still operating on a limited staff basis due to covid so I’ve been working from my parents place since she has been sick. Mom went to get her Chemo yesterday and there were only two nurses in the whole facility as everyone else couldn’t get gas to get in. If it’s this way at a chemo facility can you imagine a hospital. It’s stupid how panic can cripple an area more than the actual outage itself.
