Just got back from a terrific week (almost) away with DW. It was kind of a second honeymoon/anniversary (12 years on 8/23) trip. We had dropped DD off at camp last Sunday and we headed out on Wednesday morning for Virginia Beach.

When we were searching for a place to park our PUP before we left we were having a hard time finding a place that was not outrageously expensive and was close to the beach. All the resort type campgrounds were $40-$50 a night. I am a civilian employee in the Army so I checked out the military campgrounds in the area. Fort Story was right on Cape Henry and they had a campground with water and electric for only $16 a night. As we are not too well off in the checkbook we took it.

The campground was decent, but needs some work. The bath house was pretty clean. Would not pass military white glove inspection, but was clean enough for a campground. The sites are private, but a little overgrown.

It was a very relaxing week for us. It was a break we really needed and it was only a 5 hour drive.

Yeah, I've heard about those military sites. I wish they were open to us ordinary folks. My dad was a vet, does that count?
