    Hello There

Have any of you stayed close ( 20 minutes ) to Chattanooga,
and if so, where would you inform another to stay at ( no
koa's or privite "pack them in" grounds )???

    I now have a reason to be there on 19 - 23 July 2012
and do not want to be late.

Your criteria of 20 minutes is pretty restrictive. Most motels on the urban fringe take longer than that. Closest park options are Chester Frost County Park, Harrison Bay State park, and Cloudland Canyon State park (Georgia) in that order by distance. Cloudland Canyon is more like 45 minutes but is by far the nicest nearby choice. Chester Frost and Harrison Bay are on Chickamauga Rerservoir.

I know this is a private one, but might be worth checking out. Racoon Mountain Campground, it's just west of Chattanooga. There is a cave there at the campground. The last time i was there, i was about 8 years old.. that was back in the early 80's.. yikes! It WAS a nice campground, but i can't say for sure now..

we stayed at Cloudland Canyon a few weeks ago, and it is definitely a nice CG! but yeah i'd think it's a little bit far away. i don't know anything about anything on the TN side of the line though....

Cloudland Canyon is definitely a great place! We stayed there last summer when visiting Chattanooga. It only is about 30 minutes out, worth it to avoid the hustle and bustle for us, of course where we live, it is 30 minutes to anything, so we are kind of used to it [:D]

From what I saw of the CG at Raccoon Mt two years ago chaperoning a field trip, I'm afraid it would fall into the "pack-'em-in" CGs. The caverns are very interesting. Cloudland Canyon is very nice. Is there not still a nice campground on top of Lookout Mt close to Rock City, either in TN or GA, anyone? Or on Lake Nick-a-Jack, but that might not be any closer than the ones Don_Bev mentioned on Chickamauga.

    Hola All

My how I do like the hints. Since I first posted for assistance I
now am learning the City Folks who do not go off the asphalt
are staying at a Comfort Suite Inn located at 6710 Ring Gold Road,
    East Ridge ( Chattanooga ).

I'm glad I have 358 days to go.

Ringold, one word. [:D] (Thought it might help if looking something up.) Well, they are sort of already on the Cloudland Canyon SP side of town.

    Hola All

Now I know Ring Gold has been smashed into one word,
We have Mark Scheffel here that is now "Markschuffle Road".

I like the helpful hints that are arriving. How would
    http://www.tn.gov/environment/parks/HarrisonBay/#camping
    fit into this ???

It is a little more than 20 minutes, but a lot closer than 50 munites.

Hello. I am so sorry to have given you bad information. Although Ringgold has been smashed into one word, it does in fact have two Gs.
As for Harrison Bay CG, Don_Bev1972 did comment on it earlier in the thread, and while Harrison Bay is closer to the hotel in East Ridge you mentioned, they said they thought Cloudland Canyon SP was much nicer. I believe they live actually in Chattanooga, and probably have for much longer than I've lived in NWGA. Maybe you could PM them.
    Good luck and happy camping.

    Hola All

Even though what I wrote/ replied in my last post, I never
    mean to "sound gruff".

At this point I do not know what is what there unless I
ask. Then when I re-tell it all to Gabby, she always says,
"do they have Water and Electricity".

I just spoke with a person from Chester Park and she said to
expect 30-35 minutes of driving to get to RingGold. She added
that since I am from Out of State the fee is $25 per night.

Sure am glad I have until the 17th of July to figure this out.

    Hello Again

I just spent a few minutes with CloudLand Canyon SP
    http://georgiastateparks.org/CloudlandCanyon . They say
it is a 45 minute drive to East Ridge .

At the rate I am going I will be "worn out" by next July.
