I was lucky enough to grab a spot in RMNP on short notice. We stayed at Glacier Basin Campground which is at 8500 feet. The area has been hit hard by the Mountain Pine Beetle and most of the mature trees have been cut down as a result. There are many smaller pines that have been planted though.

We were in Loop D - #140. This is a pull through site which we chose to enter from the wrong direction in order to get the mountain views from the door. There are no hookups provided at any of the sites but running water and flush toilets are available. Bear boxes are available throughout the campground.

There are many hiking opportunities available in the Park but parking is a big issue with most lots full by 9:00AM. A free shuttle service is provided and there is a park and ride lot available. Several elk walked into the campground each night. GB 1.jpg GB 2.jpg GB 3.jpg

RMNP is spectacular. Was the Old Fall River Road open? If so, did you drive up. Some of the scenery will take your breath away.
