Hello, my husband and I purchased a 2003 Coleman bayside Elite which looked fine two years ago when we purchased but now the roof has major cracks. We didn’t know about the whole ABS roof issue until recently but need advice on how to fix. Read some info on MEK but not sure how to start or if it will even work.

The best way to fix the ABS roof is to remove it from the foam and cover with a bedliner like Gorilla Grip or Rhino liner. The MEK mixed with ABS 50/50 mixture is a good repair but you will have to repeat the process again when new cracks form. Or you can follow my lead and just cover the whole pup with a larger tarp. Good Luck.

The pics look like a layer of grizzly grip has already been applied.
My roof had a lot of hairline cracks, but no delamination. I prepped and rolled on a layer of grizzly grip. It looked great and adhered really well. But a couple years later, all the cracks have came through.
If I did it again, which I probably will have to, I would remove the entire outer layer of ABS, then apply the GG.

I will agree with all. The cracks look repaired allready. There is fibers in one picture. And it almost looks like a piece was cut out and seamed in. I would remove it all and grizzlygrip it. Too much damage to glue down and recoat.

Yes when we purchased it didn’t look like that so we had no idea the roof had so many cracks. How difficult is it to remove the roof? Do you know if there is a thread already with directions on this process and grizzly grip method?

Thank you all. Reviewed the video and found more on YouTube which are extremely helpful. I will attempt this project as fall arrives since the heat is brutal right now.

We rolled a couple layers of Flex Seal (white) on our 2000 Fleetwood Bayside ABS roof which had lots of crazing. Worked GREAT!! Now we just give it a quick once over around the sides every other year. Fast and affordable. That stuff is amazing.

Yes. It is rubbery and durable. Two coats at least. It dries fast so once you start, don’t stop. You can buy it by the gallon at Walmart. Just keep on rollin. Let it dry completely between coats We’ve used Flex Tape too on a tear in our awning. Also worked great!

That roof was not fine two years ago, just prettied up for sale. [:!] I'll give the PO the benefit of the doubt and say they thought it was permanently repaired.

I agree with the others that this is not a candidate for MEK. The ABS has to come off, but once you apply the Grizzly Grip to the core roof, you should be good to go.

    Hi Cilla84,
I am in Rancho Cordova. I also have an ABS roof with problems. Luckily you have the interior braces, I dont and cant find them :( we should get together and discuss roof problems as we will need to redo ours also. Looks like I am pulling the ABS layer too.

Have you checked eBay? Have you called and asked if they expect to have any in stock in the future. Also worth checking junk yards.

Someone here just fashioned their own. I will try to find the thread and link you to it. Just stuff you can buy at a hardware store.

    EDIT: Check out this thread.
