We took our 2 kiddos + 1 to Cross Timbers back in October. It was still very warm here in Kansas. It quickly became one of our new favorites. We stayed in the Osage Plains loop #23, which had both standard electric and water. The hiking trails were absolutely beautiful. The Ancient Trees Trail had a fun little surprise, we had to go back the next day for a picnic. This was our DS first time camping, he was almost 10 months old and did great. The CG was pretty empty, but then again it was the 3rd week of October [;)]. Our site was fairly private, with plenty of tree growth and a trail that led directly from our site, though a little patch of wooded area to the bath house. Which was wonderful with 2 girls (7 & 11). There is a small camp store on the other side of the lake, but the closest town with any amenities was Fredonia, and the road there was REALLY rough (potholes big enough to swallow a car). Toronto is the closest town, but there really isn't much there. There is a restaurant called Courtney's in Toronto that apparently has some of the best Italian food in the state, but we didn't get a chance to try it out-- maybe next time. The trees are beautiful and the colors in the fall are amazing. I forgot to add-- the trails are pretty rocky, so make sure you are prepared. Our DD ended up twisting her ankle a few times and taking one good tumble [IMG] [IMG]
