    Arrrrgh!
My 2nd solar panel arrived today. Smashed.
160W Eco-Worthy. The first one works great. Figured I'd get another. Fate had other plans.

Wow, that sux......hopefully, you'll be able to return it without a lot of hassle. My 2 100 watt panels just arrived a couple of days ago, thankfully intact.

    That stinks !!

Hope the replacement arrives in better shape.

Are you mounting those on your roof, or leaving them so you can chase the sun ?

I've got an email off to them. I have my fingers crossed for a quick turn around.

I'll be chasing the sun with them. I'm going to attach them with a stainless piano hinge so they close like a suitcase. I also want to make some sort legs on the back. But that's a project for after I get the replacement panel.

Got a hold of the manufacturer, they're shipping a new one out.

FedEx delivered it. It's the first thing that's ever shown up destroyed.
The packaging was the same that was used for the last one.
It must have taken a huge blow to the front-center. It's 1/4" tempered glass.

I don't have much experience with online shopping for the fear of what happened to you.

Who is responsible when a shipped item arrives damaged? Manufacturer? Delivery company? What is to keep either from blaming the recipient?

Most cases the Delivery company is accountable, but the seller is responsible for the transaction(They arrange the transport and pay for it).
The seller will reship the goods and then make a claim against the delivery company.
Differences can occur, so the above process is not the same every time.
All parties normally have a agreement and a process for sorting out the blame game.
One of the reasons I check the external packaging before I accept the item. If the cardboard is holed, discoloured from water or looks distressed, then I take a photo and note that at the time of delivery to the delivery agent.

I find propping them up with a stick works pretty well. [:D]

Aye, in some cases the deliveree is "self-insured", meaning they do a very large volume or their items are deemed too fragile by the shipping company to insure them. I used to work for such a company, was a hassle because whenever something arrived damaged sometimes had to prove it was damaged in transit for the insurance company to cover it and most times the cost was too low to even hassle with it. Ahhh big business.

    Glad they'll replace it.

When you build your case, make sure you post some pictures of your design. A suggestion, put some rubber pads on the inside part of one of the panels. so when you close the panels they're not touching. Just a thought.

Yeah. Sucks. I don't need it right away. So if they want to ship another that's fine. I'll let them try a couple more times before I give up.
I'll just have to make a trip to the dump to rid myself of the busted ones.

I've had a bit of experience with shipping and receiving and will tell you the shipper using the big brown trucks is not gentle with freight. Since you have had multiple bad experiences with your shipments, try requesting 2 day or overnight shipment. They are "sometimes" more gentle in the handling of these packages.
