After scrubbing, cleaning, waterproofing, stocking our pup, her axle broke and the wheel bed caught fire, totaling the entire thing. We are heartbroken. What parts should I look to resell?

Sorry to hear about the loss. If they are in good shape, you may be able to sell the canvas, cushions, appliances, possibly the roof.

What kind of camper is it?

If the 3-way fridge still works, that is worth quite a bit to someone who is looking at replacing theirs.

I’m sorry to hear about your pop up. But when I saw your headline “Dead camper” I literally thought someone had died at a campsite! Lol

Hahah!! Nope just the camper. My 3 yo had named it Gidget. We are in a “secret life of pets” phase. Haven’t had true heart to tell her yet

Gidget can live on in my new 1995 Fleetwood Chesapeak. Where are you located? I’m looking for a few parts here.

Why not fix it. Wheel well and axle are an easy fix.

Apparently there was a fire. We are waiting to see how extensive the damage is. Just found a thread on here about wheel well replacements. Trick would be to get my husband back on board.

I was driving down the highway when I felt the camper sway. Next thing I know I’m seeing sparks and smoke. Thought that I had blown a tire, but when I pulled over and we looked, the axle was lying on the ground and the tire was angled inward, holding that side of the camper up. I didn’t smell anything but burned rubber, but the tow company said that the wheel well burned up and even burned up some stuffed animals that we had in the compartment around the wheel well. We had to leave it there; we were on our way to a wedding. We kept our vacation route (hubs and I haven’t had a vacation in 5 years) and we are slowly making our way back up to Virginia. Plan is to stop by and check on her on the way through.

I wouldn't give up hope until you see it. Sounds like maybe some friction burns but not a major fire.

Rent a car trailer, load it up, take it home, and access the damage.

"Burned up" means something different to me than what you are (or the tow company is) describing. Were there flames torching the camper or high heat from rubber friction on the plastic wheel well causing some cabinet contents to be blacken. A new axle from etrailer, with a lot of components, is less that $400. Call them and give your trailer size and they'll set you up! Good luck, don't give up! It's a great camper.

An entire New axle is easy to put on for anyone with very basic knowledge:8 nuts total. Maybe connect some wires if have electric brakes. I put a new axle on myself over the winter- never done it before

This is a good reminder to people to repack bearings regularly.

I drove half way across Canada with a used utility trailer and was only 30km from my destination and I almost lost the wheel. Learned my lesson. When I buy a trailer (including my new to me pup this year) the FIRST thing I do is repack the bearings. An hour of work and a few $ of grease and parts saves a world of hurt later.
