Just as a point of reference, the High/Med/Low switch should only change the size of the pilot light. This isn't an appliance that makes a massive flame.
a u tube manometer works by measuring the difference in height between the two columns of water (so adding the left and right readings is incoreect)
Fig. 2-2. When positive pressure is applied to one leg, the liquid is forced down in that leg and up in the other. The difference in height, "h," which is the sum of the readings above and below zero, indicates the pressure.
